Maya Milan Biography

Maya Milan, born Maya Russell in Boston,
Massachusetts, is taking the music industry by storm
with her eclectic sound and strong commanding vocals.
Raised in Maryland and self-described as "The Urban
Girl Next Door," Maya's music genuinely and soulfully
chronicles life from the perspective of a maturing young
women who is unafraid to be transparent about her
journey. Maya does this by recapturing and reviving the
authentic R&B sound, while simultaneously giving it a
new urban feel.
Maya began singing at the age of three, performing at
the age of 9 by singing “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys
at her school talent show, and now at the age of 24 has
a timeless and sonic sound that has helped her establish
herself as not only a singer, but as a songwriter as well.
As an artist skilled enough to work amongst industry
greats, Maya Milan’s writer's repertoire includes
collaborations with notable figures in the industry such
as Poohbear and Jeremih.

Maya also has had the opportunity to work with award-
winning music moguls such as Tina Davis, Dame Dash,
and grammy nominated producer, Zaytoven, in addition
to having the pleasure of recording with Mali Music,
singing live for both Timbaland and Ginuwine, and
attending a master songwriters session with James
Fauntleroy.

Since the release of her debut EP, “11:11”, in 2016,
Maya has been on tour, written and released new
music, and collaborated with a number of notable
artists. In May of 2017, Maya began performing with
Keith Sweat at his Las Vegas residency then moved
forward as an official tour vocalist with him and
Teddy Riley. However, moving audiences isn’t new
to Maya Milan. Prior to this opportunity, Maya has
been able to perform for audiences worldwide,
including opening up for artists such as K.Michelle,
Rick Ross, Fabolous, and J.Cole.
In 2019, Maya Milan will be captivating audiences
on the new BET music competition show, “The Next
Big Thing”, set to air at the top of the year.
When Maya speaks about her biggest influences,
she recognizes Mary J. Blige as an inspiration for
her vulnerability, Beyonce' for her approach to
capturing audiences through iconic performances,
and the late and great Whitney Houston for her
powerhouse vocal ability.
Endorsed by Angie Stone as the next hit vocalist,
Maya Milan is an independent artist who will
continue to globalize her sound and solidify her
place in the music industry.
