Ronnie Horton Ministries Biography

I remember standing on the alter in a small country church at about 5 years old singing, “Mansion Over the Hilltop” as my first ever solo. I’ve always loved to sing and have had a great interest in singing for God. As the youngest of six children and parents that always made sure we were in church every time the doors were open, I had many opportunities to sing and be around gospel music.
I was blessed to be born into a devout Christian family that loved God and music. Dad taught me my first guitar chords, G, C and D. I played his old cheap Silvertone guitar until my fingers were raw.
I was surrounded by older siblings that I looked up to and watched carefully. My Sister Carol is the oldest she played piano, Layne played lead guitar, Kenny played bass and had a Floyd Cramer thang going on when he played piano, Cliff played drums and Steve played “cat head” mandolin. I got to tinker with them all! I remember when my childhood friend Gary “Bud” Smith asked me to go with him to audition for a country artist that was putting together a tour band. Two reasons I didn’t…we had just recorded a family album and I felt as though I needed to be with my family. Secondly yet most important was I felt whatever talent I had was given to me by God and I needed to use it for Him.
Through my teen years we were fortunate to travel as a family singing, seeing souls saved and people healed by God using us as vessels. Talent shows, camp meetings and making records were all a part of those early years. I loved how much Mom and Dad enjoyed seeing their kids serving God and how they often traveled with us. One night as we sang with the Hinsons, Kenny came up to me after the service and said, “keep it up and you just might make it someday.” His smile and hand on my shoulder was more than enough to provide encouragement. I have such fond memories of those formative years. While others in my age group were trying to find their way in life, we were busy doing the Master’s work trying to help people find their way in life.
Even today, when I preach or sing there are still those that come up to remind me of a service where they heard us or are eager to tell me a story of how our music touched them many years ago.
I pray that as you listen to the songs complied for this album, you will come up to me in a church somewhere to share how God used these songs to bring comfort, healing and peace to your life. Jesus knows all about your problems and He knows how to solve them. In fact if you were to ask Him why He loves you, why He died for you, why He wants you to love him…He just might say, “That’s What I Do.”
Blessings,
Ronnie
