Céline Rudolph Biography

Praised as a “voice to kneel down before” by the press and esteemed by colleagues like Lee Konitz, Naná Vasconcelos, or Jamire Williams, the European jazz vocalist and composer Céline Rudolph stands out because of her love of musical adventure. Jazz, art-pop and African and Brazilian rhythms form part of her diverse, artistic vocabulary just as much as the lyrics of her songs which are couched in several languages. She can express herself perfectly in English, Portuguese, French and German. As a passionate creator of sounds, she makes use of this multilingualism not only from its poetic aspect but also uses the different speech melodies and articulations in her excellent vocal improvisations.

She collaborates with guitarist Lionel Loueke, having toured Europe, West Africa and Asia, and having recorded the highly acclaimed duo album “Obsession” (Echo Jazz Award and German Critics Nominee/ Jahresliste Deutsche Schallplattenkritik). “This is a very unique project because there are no boundaries. I knew from the start that we are kind of from the same tribe,” says Lionel Loueke. Besides performing with Lionel and her quartet, the vocalist started a solo program combining loops, effects, percussion and guitar.

Her new album PEARLS, which she produced with drummer Jamire Williams in Brooklyn NY, creates a new color in her musical jewelry box that blends singer-songwriter melodies with urban jazz.

“You are really fun!” – Bobby McFerrin
