Mark Music Show 3.9: The Summer Storms & The N!te Owls
Friday, October 18th, 2019
7:30 PM
*The Mark* at St. Mark's Hope & Peace Church - Marshall Hall
3800 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64109
The Mark Youth and Community Center (The Mark) was a dream of Reverend Donna Simon, Pastor of St. Mark Hope and Peace Lutheran Church, 3800 Troost, who recognized the need for area youth to have a safe and constructive environment after school. Rev. Donna envisioned renovating the 3,000 square foot basement of their 100-year-old church, into an inspiring, state-of-the-art space with music, educational, and personal development programs. In addition to youth programs, The Mark will be available for community use.

In January 2019, The Mark will begin a Capital Campaign to raise the $500,000 needed to renovate the space. Additional funds will be raised for equipment and programming. Please support our fundraising efforts by going to: themarkkc.org.

On October 18, come see two young and upcoming music groups brought together in one show at The Mark. Admission to the show is $20 cash at the door, or $15+fee at Eventbrite

The Summer Storms are a Kansas City based americana trio comprised of founding members Michael Ptacek (bass), Amanda O'Brien (vocals, dobro, harmonica) and Thaddeus O'Brien (vocals, guitar, mandolin). The trio has enjoyed broad-ranging inspiration from the folk & americana, rock, jazz, and blues communities and aspires to create a warm, original sound that both lives in and defies the classifications of the musical genres from which it came. The Summer Storms songs are laden with rich harmonies, jazz influenced bass lines as well as dobro and harmonica accentuation.

The N!te Owls are a Kansas City based alternative/folk duo. With influences ranging from The Lumineers, The Civil Wars, and In The Valley Below, The N!te Owls combine multiple instrument combos, with spot on harmonies and an ever changing style throughout the performance. Just months after forming, their Debut single "Color" received a Semi-Finalist placement in the "Song Of The Year" songwriting competition, and got the attention of an A&R representative for Columbia Records. This lead to a major label showcase in Kansas City's Power & Lite District. The duo has performed across 7 states, and have played a myriad of festivals including, "Crossroads Music Fest," "The Swift Mile Festival", "The Plaza Arts Fair" and has been described as "the songwriters breakfast poster children" by Dalis Allen of The Kerrville Folk Festival. Music has been distributed via MudStomp Records, and Lost Cowgirl Records, with radio airplay in the US, Denmark, and Switzerland. Their next single "Where Ever You Go" is set to release August 25th, with the full album forth coming in November of 2018.
