Plankeye Peggy Biography

Hard-wired for rock, Plankeye Peggy blends surf, Latin, gypsy, and dance rhythms into tightly-woven compositions that showcase singing voices alongside instrumental bombast. Plankeye Peggy is a rock quartet, with equal parts electric guitar and keyboards, from Asheville, N.C. who plays with a horn section as often as possible. They congealed around singer and composer, Danny Tetrault’s, vision for long-form song performance during the summer of 2013 and have since played nearly 100 regional gigs.
In March, 2016, Plankeye Peggy released their first LP, “Let’s See What We Have Here,” which they recorded mostly live at Matt Williams’s Eagle Room Studio in Weaverville, N.C. Evoking a sonic treasure map, the albums shifts and slides between hard ska, skinny waltzes, pirate jams, and medium-tempo soul grooves, all held together by Tetrault’s myriad, ravenous vocals which have been compared to such diverse crooners as Mike Patton, Les Claypool, and Tom Waits. Although the ten songs stretch to over an hour in length, both “Lobster Boy” and “Spark” have received considerable attention on Western North Carolina radio. One reviewer notes that the studio tunes bring “the evening circus home starting with the traditional theme and going full-fledged into the night with fire blazing, hoops twirling and a wild fury of drums, strings and keys fueling the entire affair before it secretly saunters into the evening, kicking off its fishnets and removing all its makeup, leaving nothing in its trace.”
Plankeye Peggy designs their shows to get their crowds involved, whether through themed costumes, on-stage antics, or dancing. High strung and spasmatic, their performance reveals musical adventures that are desperate and preening, flirtatious and dangerous, yet always aimed at getting the crowd moving.
