Desray Biography

www.shesdesray.com
2013 has been Desray’s most creative year yet. This year, she is totally focused on the development of her solo career. After having toured the entire world and having performed on many different kinds of stages, she now knows perfectly well what she wants. She has matured into a fully developed artist, She is a strong, virtuous woman, full of passion with a positive view on life.
Throughout the years, Desray has continued to cultivate her musical tastes and she realizes now, more than ever, that music can truly unite people. Music is emotion; therefore, Desray prefers songs with strong emotional contexts that express her sense of anger, excitement, joy and sadness. This has inspired her to start writing her own lyrics. For Desray, music is a way of life, 24/7.
Desray has an unconditional love and passion for music. She wants to perform her songs with the musical accompaniment of her own band. She has a wide repertoire of songs with a mixture of Country, Celtic, Folk, Pop and Rock influences. To this, of course, she adds her own special individual lyrics.
Desray’s experience has convinced her that a good singer is more than just a “voice athlete who produces a scale of notes”. For Desray, it is all about an honest, pure and passionate performance. With her special voice, Desray knows how to really touch someone’s soul.

Desray recently toured the world with 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor, shared stages with Laura Pausini, Andrea Bocelli, Alessandro Safina and the Dutch performer Herman Brood. Worldwide, she achieved 14 hits, received the Diamond Award for selling more than 10 million copies and has supported various charities.
In 2013 Desray set herself only one goal; to release her own solo album and reveal herself through her music as hardly any one has ever seen her before.
Starting in September, you will be able to meet this Desray, along with others on the stage of “De Vorstin” in Hilversum, the media center of the Netherlands.

Biography
Success first came for Desray in 1988. At the age of 18 she won the famous Soundmixshow, hosted by local celebrity Henny Huisman. She performed a song called “They Don’t Play Our Love Songs Anymore”. This song was originally performed by Dutch singer Anita Meijer.
She came third in the Big Final and her talent was instantly spotted by no one less than Joop van den Ende who immediately offered her a contract. This is when her many performances with well-known artists throughout the country began.

In 1993 Desray started to co-operate with the rapper D-Rock and, together, they formed “2 Brothers on the 4th Floor”. For their 1st single “Never Alone” they received a Gold Record (25.000 records sold). Their second release “Dreams” was also awarded a Gold Record and stayed at number 1 in the charts for four weeks. Globally, they achieved 14 hit records. They received 2 Platinum Records (300.000 sold copies), 3 Gold Records and numerous awards for their albums and singles. This has made 2 Brothers on the 4th Floor one of the most successful Euro-Dance Acts of the nineties. To date, they remain very popular and perform on a regular basis in both Holland and abroad.

Besides “2 Brothers on the 4th Floor”, acts like 2 Unlimited and T-Spoon also dominated the charts during the nineties. Together, these three acts have achieved no less than 45 hits, 29 of which have reached the top 10 in the charts.
In 2002, the three female artists of these acts; Desray, Anita and Estelle decided to combine forces and revive all those wonderful nineties hits in one fantastic show. They have now been performing internationally for over 10 years as “Diva’s of Dance”.
In addition to her performances as “Diva of Dance”, Desray has also started to give vocal coaching sessions.
Desray successfully passed her exams (with honors) at the Hilversum Conservatory in 1996, followed by master classes in acting and singing with people like Vera Mann and Lucia Marthas.
Besides this and in combination with her solo career, she sings and performs with different bands and makes many studio recordings of jingles for various radio stations like Radio 2, Radio538 and 3FM.
As a result of her broad experience, Desray knows how to explain and teach her pupils the ins and outs and the tricks of the music trade. She was asked to be the vocal coach in the series “Academy of Stars” broadcasted by the TROS (National Broadcasting Organization in Holland) in 2010.

Desray’s wish is to unite people by means of her music in a warm, positive environment and atmosphere. She continues to develop this and it becomes stronger every day. The idea of a monthly jam session under the name of “Desray & Friends” was born in 2008. In this venture she was supported by a large number of music friends amongst whom were artists such as Angela Groothuizen (ex Dolly Dots), Edwin Evers, Nurlaila Karim, Hugh Kanza and many more. On each occasion, Desray created a very special gig!

Desray’s ambition and desire is to make her own beautiful productions. She continues to develop this side of her work. Music really helps Desray to unwind and relax. For her, it’s almost like meditation! It gives her more and more satisfaction that people enjoy her voice and music whilst they relax in a positive atmosphere, reflecting on their own lives.

Reflecting on life is actually something Desray does frequently. It has made her realize that there is more she can achieve with her exceptional talent. She is full of enthusiasm and energy and has supported a number of charities. For example, one project that she supported back in the nineties was a hit song called “Star Maker” the revenues of which went to children in need in Third World countries.
Shortly after this, she went on to sing along with other well-known Dutch performers such as Marco Borsato, Syb van der Ploeg and Herman Brood in a single called “Voorgoed” (For Ever). With this selfless cooperation she supported the War Child Project of BNN (a broadcasting organization founded by Bart de Graaff.
In the autumn of 2000 she recorded the single “A Trip Down The Map Of Africa”. With this song she drew attention to a campaign called “Hygiene Helps” for Africa. With her initiative “Sing That Song” she created the longest on-line sing a long ever and has set a world record for this project.
At the start of 2013 she joined the “Scandinavian Road trip”, an exciting and challenging car journey of more than 7.000 kilometers through Scandinavia in seven days. The benefits of this trip went to A.L.S. (an organization that helps to fight Amyotrophic Lateral Scleroses).

Desray is a big star who became very famous in the Dance scene with her act in “2 Brothers on the 4th Floor”. She’s traveled all over the world from Norway to Africa and from Venezuela to Canada. She’s performed in Mega shows and she has been awarded Platinum and Gold records and various other awards.
However, many people are unaware that she can also be very fragile, sensitive and touching. Desray demonstrated this when she performed the classic song “All By Myself” in a television production called “The Winner is”. She left a huge impression on the audience and won by a unanimous jury decision of 101 votes to 0!

Desray is an all-round artist who has discovered herself in the world of music. Over the years she has learned how to fully express her emotions in her music.

Let her voice, lyrics and music transport you away on a short trip…
