About this concert
ECIES Gothic and Industrial Gathering aims to unite, involve and further evolve Ireland’s Gothic and Industrial Community.SPECIES is classed as a ‘boutique’ festival gathering, which means it has small stages that host a wealth of emerging talent from across the Gothic & Industrial genre. This talent is from all over Ireland helping to bring music lovers and musicians together at a grass roots level, to support their favorite acts and friends and share their music with a targeted audience and introduce the genre to others. We believe it benefits individual artists and musicians to showcase their talent alongside acts from across Ireland who are open to collaboration, networking and skill sharing. Gaining a new platform in a friendly and encouraging environment to perform their music with the potential to foster collaborations and networking in order to seek gigs and opportunities further afield. It is not just musicians that SPECIES aims to support. The visual artists involved have a platform though SPECIES to promote their works to a targeted Gothic and alternative audience over the space of the event. We believe SPECIES can create new dialogues across the Gothic and Industrial arts community merging visual, performance and music collaborations further creating a solidarity between the local and national artists involved. The first SPECIES was held during May bank holiday weekend 2015 in Leitrim’s mystical Iron Mountains, a location of equal distance to Dublin, Galway and Belfast that served as a nexus for the SPECIES gathering opening up the tranquility and wilderness of the West to these major creative hubs of intercity Ireland. The event took shape as a two day camping weekend of live visual art, music, performance and Dj’s. That catered to approximately 100 artists and guests. As an event in its infancy we are pleased with the turn out from the Irish Gothic and Industrial community at large. We saw host to some amazing talent from across Ireland all of which are now profiled here in the Artists section on our Gothic Species website.Click here to read Kohhna‘s wonderfully written report capturing the atmosphere of species 2015 on his festival blog ‘life at the sharp end’The 2nd Species took place on the 3rd, 4th & 5th of June 2016.The 3rd Species took place on the weekend of the 30th of June until July 2nd 2017.The 4th Installment, Species 2018 will take place on the bank holiday weekend of the June 1st. Unkindness Of Ravens Biography

Formed in June of 2015, Unkindness Of Ravens create a style of music that is melancholic and dramatic.

BACKGROUND
Originally performing live as a motorcycle influenced rock group which began in December 2013, the band widened their sound when Danielle Egan (keys/synths) joined founding members Darren Keegan (guitar/vocals), Daryl Hogan (drums) and Shane Fitzgerald (guitar).

Fitzgerald departed the group soon after and the remaining trio pushed the band through complete remake, emerging with over an hour of recorded material in the winter of 2015 which became the first album 'Under Stolen Skies.'

The album was recorded in a 200 year-old house at the foot of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in Ireland by the band, with Hogan, a qualified record engineer, overseeing the recording.

Soon later the band teamed up with Dura Gesta Records, a subsidiary of Domestic Genocide Records, based in Michigan in the United States.

This early trans-Atlantic relationship saw Dura Gesta Records release Unkindness Of Ravens first album, ‘Under Stolen Skies’ in November 2015.

A video for the song ‘Leanan Sídhe’ was also released, which was filmed and produced by the band, featuring dramatic footage captured with drones of the karst landscape of the Burren, their home in the Slieve Bloom Mountains and saw the band visit the Pollnagollum Caves, which inspired J.R.R. Tolkien to create the character Gollum in the Lord of the Rings.

The video became a showcase for the band’s style and aesthetic; with down-tuned string arrangements as a backdrop to organ and distorted violin, vocal harmonies and reverb drenched distorted guitars.

In 2016 the band took to the road and expanded the lineup to include Philly Brett on bass and the return of Shane Fitzgerald on guitar. In 2016 the band played at the Siege Of Limerick Festival and visited Ukraine to perform at the Electric Meadow Festival near Lviv in western Ukraine.

February 2017 saw the band release their second album, the double album 'The Perfect Dark,' which was accompanied by a video for the album's first single 'The Wolf and the Hound' and recorded in the same old house in rural Ireland.

The video was filmed by the band in Leap Castle and the infamously haunted Bloody Chapel, a site known worldwide for its dark history and reputation for paranormal activity.
