The concert will feature never before heard compositions inspired by themes and traditions of Carnival as well as music from his latest album, Carnival: The Sound of a People Vol 1. Carnival: the Sound of a People, is an opus that continues Charles' penchant for the rituals of his homeland, composed after four months of travel and deep research across Trinidad and Tobago to unearth the arts of Carnival that highlight the vivid and vast elements of our culture and history. What he discovers is that Carnival traditions are alive and thriving in areas with strong communities and families. Art forms continue to grow and evolve after being passed from generation to generation through the oral tradition. This concert will dig deeper into our Carnival traditions, featuring some obscured performance traditions as well as goes into ideas of the dialogue between mas and society with respect to social commentary as well as history.
