Juan Almada - Guitar Solo Recital

Maison de l'Amérique Latine - Café Libro
Café Libro, Strasbourg, France
Juan Almada Guitar

The program is built from a Latin American perspective of music, with the diversity and the rhythmic development being the main attributes as an axis to shape this repertoire of pieces.
The pieces of the composer from Entre Ríos, Carlos Aguirre, are a fine mixture of typical South American rhythms (guarania, candombe) with a modern harmonic and formal language, being configured in pieces that defy the limits of guitar’s harmonic and technical language.
In the program, “Variations through the Centuries” from the Italian Castelnuovo Tedesco, functions as a junction point for the concept of variety and rhythmic and stylistic contrast, offering a different genre in each part of the piece (Chaconne, Vals, Foxtrot). The series of Five Pieces for guitar is the only original material composed by Astor Piazzolla for a soloist instrument. The Litoral tunes is the resultant of a fusion of music from two authors (Ayala - Argentina -, Barris - Paraguay -) which evokes typical rhythms: Guarania, Polca-Galopa. The “Sonata of the Black Decameron” from the Cuban composer Leo Brouwer, represents one of his last contributions to the guitar repertoire. In four movements, he presents the characteristic elements of a language named by the author as “new simplicity”, where quotes from another musics (own and others), African-root rhythmics, and a cinematographic vision of music are abundant.
