About this concert
I'm playing Routes Festival in Halifax, a great event to support and provide somewhere for young musicians to express their talents. The event is from 12-late, but I'm playing at 5.15 on the acoustic stage!

Joe Thompson Biography
West-Yorkshire based, Joe Thompson, blends the upbeat, joyous affairs of synth-pop choruses with emotionally charged lyrics, tackling all topics from Post-Brexit hate attacks to mental health. Having played in bands and grown up in and around the indie music scene, when deciding to go solo he wanted to be different. No more soulless indie musings to pander to a young, impressionable audience, he wanted to release the most personal music he can. It's one thing to write about vague concepts like girls and partying, but to be truly vulnerable, with lyrics that are truly from the heart and reveal an artists deepest feelings, that's when music can start to feel truly special.
In early 2018, he self-released 3 songs from his bedroom, each garnering over 1,000 streams online and positive reception, with his first gigs having dozens of attendees from the local area. With more music and gigs down the line, the future certainly looks colourful.
'Thompson, albeit somewhat skittish, consistently delivers with a woozy pop bounce, working with earworms that spring to life out of an underlying anguish about the state of current affairs. It may be easy enough to only say that you should be the change you want to see in the world, but Joe Thompson has plastered that saying onto his sleeve, by continuing to create calm within the chaos, one track at a time.' - Sophie Williams (Let It Happen, The Sprout, Buzzmag, NME)
