Ella Belfanti at Open Studio w Cat Sanzaro + Hannah Ruby
Saturday, June 16th, 2018
7:00 PM
Open Studio
204 High Street, Melbourne, Australia
Winner of 'Best Guitarist' at the Bluesfest Busking Comp 2017 and hailed as "The next big thing!" by Yumi Stynes (of ABC's 'Ladies, We Need To Talk' podcast), Ella Belfanti is bringing her music to Open Studio, with Cat Sanzaro and Hannah Ruby opening the night. Brandishing her guitar, loop pedal and stomp box, Ella is a solo artist with a sound as full as a band. She takes the audience on a journey through the folky ballads of her debut EP, to groovy atmospheric blues, largely instrumental percussive guitar pieces, and fast-paced heralds to the confusing human condition. Notable for her voice that ranges from ethereal highs to gutsy blues sounds and her percussive style of guitar, Ella's songs have a strikingly heartfelt and genuine quality, with to-the-point lyrics that can only be described as raw. She has appeared at the Sydney Opera House performing at All About Women Festival, and at the inaugural Byron Bay Guitar Festival alongside greats such as Phil Emmanuel, Fiona Boyes, Jeff Lang, and newcomers Tash Wolf and Josh Needs. She has also performed at Illawarra Folk Festival, Peak Festival, Buskers By The Creek, Marrickville Festival, Newtown Festival, and was a headline act for Bastille Festival at Sydney’s Circular Quay. Cat Sanzaro's blend of roots sounds and pop melodies work in perfect balance with her soulful voice, rich with hints of her exploration of cabaret and theatre. Originally from Geelong but now based in Melbourne, the singer/songwriter has been awarded the Queenscliff Music Festival Scholarship in 2012, which enabled her to record and release her first EP with her then band The Violet Ivy's. Her new solo debut Ep "Good Together" was released in February this year at two successful EP launch evenings. Cat took a few years off between the two EPs to focus on theatre and songwriting. In 2016 she became part of the cast of "Creatures of the Night" which she also wrote for, a Cabaret written and directed by Sarah Wall and later produced by GJ productions at Fringe Festival 2017.Music from 5:30pm, $5 on the doorHannah Ruby - 5:30pmCat Sanzaro - 6:00pmElla Belfanti - 6:50pm
