Maitre Gims

Maître Gims (born May 6, 1986 in Kinshasa, Zaire, actually Gandhi Djuna) is a French rapper and singer of Congolese descent. He is a member of Sexion d`Assaut.Gandhi Djuna was born in Zaire, now DR Congo, and came to France at the age of two. He comes from a musical family, his father is Djuna Djanana, a singer of the band Papa Wemba, his brother Dadju is a member of the group The Shin Sekai, the brothers Bedjik and Xgangs are also rappers.Growing up in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris, he later moved to the 9th and finally to the 19th arrondissement. Under the name Gims, he performed during his time at college with his friends of Sexion d`Assaut. At college, he studied communications and graphic arts. In 2004, he converted from Christianity to Islam and adopted the second name Bilal.With its collective Sexion D`assaut 2003 he took the title Coup 2 Pression and worked at the same time with JR in the duo project Prototype 3015. He decided to add Maître his name and the pseudonym le Fléau ( `The Curse`) to use. After several independent releases, Sexion d`Assaut met their current manager Dawala in the underground of Châtelet-Les Halles. In 2005, they released a CD called La Terre du Milieu (`Middle Earth`). Maître Gims drew the cover. In 2007 he also worked as a producer, wrote instrumental pieces and published his maxi-CD Pour ceux qui dorment les yeux ouverts (`For Those Who Sleep With Their Eyes Open`). The Maxi featured pieces featuring Sexion d`Assaut, rapper Koma (by Scred Connexion) and singer Carole. Meanwhile, with Sexion d`Assaut, he participated in two 12-inch all-star battles in the Salle du Batofar (famous Battle of the Paris Underground). After winning the second Battle, he was considered one of the best French freestylers. In 2008 he recorded the album Le Renouveau (`The Renewal`) with 3e Prototype and toured local festivals to raise his profile.In 2011 Maître Gims worked together with his father Djuna Djanana on a new album by Djanana. In 2012, the artist published the comic book Au coeur du Vortex (`In the Heart of the Whirlwind`). In 2013 he released his first solo album Subliminal. It earned him widespread recognition thanks to the singles J`me tire and Bella included. The second solo album was launched at the end of August 2016 as a double album. The first of the two CDs consists mainly of Urban Pop and Pop and the second of the actual origin of Maitre Gims, the rap. His third solo album, he announced at the beginning of December on Snapchat for the earliest in 2018.With the single Loin he rose in early 2017 for the first time in the German single charts and reached the Top 10.
