Human Life Biography

Human Life, a.k.a. Matthew Wasley wants you to listen to his music before you try to label it. “My goal as a producer and DJ is to challenge the idea that an artist has to stick to a narrow genre of music without evolving. Growing up, my favorite artists were the ones that constantly pushed themselves to do something new.” Following this path is the mission of Human Life’s music. Currently drawing inspiration from Underground, Techno, House, leftfield Disco & vintage Pop, Human Life connects these influences via strong melodies paired with production that mixes modern electronic sources alongside live instruments & vocals.

Originally from Boston, Matthew now lives in Los Angeles surrounded by the city’s underground warehouse parties and year round sunshine. It was in this environment that the project began to take shape. Human Life’s breakout Smash “In It Together” (released on Defected Records) set the tone with a remix from none other than the late Godfather of house music, Frankie Knuckles, which resulted in a No.1 on Traxsource for 4 weeks and praise from BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong who said “they don’t make ‘em like this anymore” live on air.

Several successful releases followed including collaborations with then unknown singer Anabel Englund. Their first work being the track “Falling” which was released with the Hot Creations family in 2013. The pair returned in 2014 with “El Diablo” which saw an all star remix package on Germany’s Exploited Records including standout mixes from Adana Twins, Joyce Muniz, Chaim, Chambray & more. The result was both club support from DJs like Tensnake, Sasha & Dubfire and radio support from several BBC Radio 1 DJs and the likes of KCRW’s Jason Bentley who called it one of his favorite songs of the year.

Following were releases including a collaboration with Santé, a standout EP on Kerri Chandler’s MadTech label and 2 massive EP’s with the Adana Twins on Germany’s Exploited records. 2016 will see upcoming collaborations with Tåches, Joyce Muniz and several more EP’s.

Complimenting Human Life’s studio output, signature live & DJ sets define a style that connects the projects varying influences while still keeping an ear to the dancefloor. The result has been requests to play standout gigs at some of the world’s best venues including Verboten in NYC, Sound in LA, XOYO in London, Razzmatazz in Barcelona and even the world famous Coachella Music Festival.
