Ellen Daly Biography
At only 6 years of age, Ellen Daly first picked up the fiddle after seeing a Riverdance performance and begging her parents to let her take lessons. 15 years later, Ellen has traveled and participated in numerous fiddle competitions in Canada, the US and Ireland, and has won prestigious trophies. She was the Canadian Open Old Time Junior Fiddle Champion in 2011 and was the runner-up in 2010 , she is a five-time Vankleek Hill Fiddle Champion, she came fourth at the 2010 Pembroke 18 & Under Fiddle Championship, and she was the Under 16 Eastern North American Irish Fiddle Champion in 2008.
Ellen is an Ottawa-based fiddler and has performed with numerous Folk, Country, Bluegrass, Classical, Jazz and Fiddle groups. Some of those groups include Canadian Country music artist Drake Jensen, singer-songwriter Jamie Anderson, Canadian band Salty Dog, entertainer Gail Gavan, breakout band Weston Super Mare, fiddle duo Elly Squared, and many more.
Alongside her years of performing, Ellen is an active recording artist and has worked with producers such as Jonathan Edwards of Corvidae Music, and Dan Artuso. She has also composed some of her own works which have been featured in many of her performances, and she wrote and performed the score in her high school's rendition of the play Unity (1918), which received a feature in The Ottawa Citizen and for which she received the Cappie award for Creativity/Musicianship.
