Athens Tango Project

Presented by Athens' Tangueros, Dancefx Athens, SALSAthens $10 admission/ Students $7 with student ID Athens Tango Project will play a special set of music featuring tango standards along with tango renditions of Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, R.E.M., Pylon, and more. Featuring special guest appearances. 8pm Dance demos by members of: Athens Tangueros Athens Swing Night (GA, USA) Dancefx Athens SALSAthens 10pm Athens Tango Project Monique Osorio - Vocals Laura Camacho - Bass John Phillips - Percussion David Marcus - Piano John Cooper - Violin and viola Bio: Laura Camacho started her music career in her hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She specialized in classical double bass, while remaining active in her obsession, tango music. As a member of Las Del Abasto, she opened for premiere tango acts such as Sexteto Mayor and Mariano Mores. After being offered a scholarship at the University of Georgia, she moved to Athens, Ga, where she found there to be a lack of tango music in the classic city. Camacho assembled a group of top notch local musicians to perform in the group. The group's collective of world class musicians have played with the likes of Bela Fleck, Ben Folds, Catupecu Machu, Cee-Lo Green, Deerhunter, members of Drive-By Truckers, members of Olivia Tremor Control and Circulatory System, Herbie Hancock, Diana Krall, Las Del Abasto, Layma Azur, Matisuyahu, Christian McBride, members of Tanghetto, and Universal Sigh. 8:30PM Identikit Bio: Identikit is a sextet that performs original progressive music drawing from diverse genres and traditions including klezmer, latin jazz, orchestral rock, and big band swing. Bringing their string- and woodwind-infused instrumentation to the stage, Identikit's unique sound has been exploring the limits of Atlanta's taste in music since early 2017.
