Estrella Morente Biography

A promise for the Flamenco altogether. Her career dates far back. At age four she sang Levante chants, at seven recorded with guitar master Sabicas and at sixteen impressed thousands during the opening ceremony for the Sierra Nevada World Ski Championships.

Her craft has amazed hard-to-please flamencologists as well as rockers like Lenny Kravitz. Her genetics plays along. The father, Enrique Morente, is one of the greatest innovators of the 'cante' and they collaborated together in many projects. Her mother, Aurora, a dancer known as La Pelota, stems from a vast dinasty of the Madrid Flamenco where her uncle Antonio Carbonell and her grandfather the guitarrist Montoyita also belong. The young singer has dedicated her definitive maturity statement, the album 'Mi cante y un poema' (2001), to the latter.

Estrella Morente has given solo recitals over all major Spanish capitals, has collaborated in the Joaquín Cortés troupe, and was featured in the movie soundtracks for 'Sobreviviré' and 'Buñuel y La mesa del Rey Salomón'. Moreover, she also won an Ondas prize for the Best Flamenco Creation and was nominated for one Grammy and two Amigo prizes.
