Bar Flyz Biography

The Bar Flyz are a northeast Iowa rock band which formed out of Fairbank, Iowa in 2002. Consisting of members, Mico McDaniel, Ryon Kilcher, and Mitch Laue, they play primarily classic and modern rock, but also classic country, modern country, pop and even some rap on occasion, we can please just about every crowd with our variety of good music. We don't consider ourselves entertainment for a party as much as being a part of the party with alot of crowd participation and guest singers or players we pull out of the audience. We guarentee that when you see us play you will have fun. The Bar Flyz are comprised of three musicians playing drums, bass, and guitar.
Michael McDaniel Jr. (aka Mico) coming from Sumner, Iowa started playing drums when he was 14 years old and began playing bars and dance halls with his dad Michael McDaniel Sr. in a country band called Sugarland Express. As he got older and better, his love for rock music took over and he hooked up with local rock musicians for jams and as a sub for other rock bands. In 1990 he hooked up with Mitch Laue and Dave Reed to form Sudden Thunder. Playing Motley Crue, Skid Row, and also writing some original material. As time went on, and with various different bands like Scratch, Strait Jacket, Poetic Justice, Black Eye, 180, Six Shooter, and 2nd Hand, Mico laid down a solid beat to many great songs and also adding a great high harmony on the vocals. With his ability to hear a song and play it, he can play along with just about anybody and pull it off. Mico uses DW drums and Sabien cymbals. His flashy drum playing and high energy antics are always fun for the crowd to get into.
Ryon Kilcher, who replaced original bassist, Ryan McDaniel(2002-2011), hailing out of Fredericksburg, got his start on the acoustic guitar. He loved going down to The Hub in Cedar Falls and checking out local acts and hoping some day to do the same thing they were doin. After a few years of practice and learning songs, he hooked up with some local guys and formed a band called Last Call. They played local bars and parties rockin out to Foo Fighters, Sublime, and other 90's rock tunes. But he also stuck to the good ole classics as well like C.C.R, The Beatles, and Hank Jr. Last Call played on with various different members including his wife, Amy, his sister, Bobbie, Jason Kayser, and Mico and Mitch of The Bar Flyz. With children on the way for Amy and Bobbie, Last Call started to dwindle and The Bar Flyz looking for a new bass player, Ryon hooked up with Mico and Mitch to form the current lineup it is today. Ryon is also passionate about building electric guitars and basses. With well over 20 of his own creations, the Bar Flyz primarily use WRK (Ryon's brand) guitars and basses on stage. He sports a nice ampeg bass rig and his outlandish behavior and formiddable charm always gets people going for the party.
Mitch Laue , from Elma, Iowa, started playing guitar when he was 9. In high school he got his first taste of entertaing at the high school variety show doing some Elvis and Chuck Berry. Seeing how the crowd loved it, thought it was the way to go. Anesthesia was the first band he joined in '89. Based out of Cresco, Iowa, they played bars, street dances, and backyard parties. In '90, Teacher's Pet formed out of Osage, Iowa and played with them for a year until they broke up. He hooked up with Mico and Dave Reed at that time and began working on originals and cover tunes. Scratch formed with Mico, Dave Reed and Mark Voigt of Anesthesia, and put out an LP called "Quote the Raven" which had good local success. After years of playing with different bands like Catch 22, Ginger Pop, 2nd Hand, and Six Shooter, Mitch focused on The Bar Flyz to continue playing live venues. His collaboration with Mico on drums also helped produce many original songs including albums like Captain McBones, self titled 2nd Hand, Wicked Brew, and many other singles. These can all be heard on Reverbnation.com/MitchLaue. Mitch to his band mates is known as the human jukebox. If he's heard it he can probably play it. And with Mico's ability to follow right along, together they can pull off just about any request if it was a popular song anyway. Mitch loves to do acoustic shows on the side as well sometimes with band mates or by himself. Living in Waverly now, Mitch continues to line up shows for The Bar Flyz and his own acoustic shows all across northeast Iowa. He uses WRK guitars and Marshall amplification. Somedays he even sports some wild crazy pants which have their own fan page by the way. Mitch's great singing and awesome guitar playing always turn the crowd on and leave them wanting more.
The Bar Flyz continue every weekend to party with northeast Iowa in every little small town bar, street dance, or county fair. Check them out on Facebook and Barflyz.net. If you have the chance to see them it is a must!! Keep promoting live music and we'll see you at the next show!
