TILLY MOSES:

Tilly Moses is back with a brand new album and a full band! This gig at the Fulford Arms forms part of her national album tour, and we’re all very excited!

Tilly is a mandolin player and singer songwriter from Suffolk, now based in York. She has been performing all over the country since the age of just 13, supporting some of the best-loved folk acts in the UK, and in 2017 released her long awaited debut album Alight & Adrift, to incredible critical acclaim.

The album features the talents of many extraordinary musicians, including BBC Folk Award Winner Sam Kelly, Mercury Prize Nominee Kit Downes, and BBC Folk Award nominated band Mawkin’s James Delarre, amongst others. It has been praised by critics and audiences alike and is already a firm favourite in the folk world and beyond.

Tilly’s carefully crafted songs address subjects as diverse as climate change, gender inequality, apathy, love, and leaving home, and she delivers them with an extraordinarily powerful, passionate vocal style, and a colourful stage presence.

Following an impressive summer of performances, including playing the main stage at FolkEast festival, performing on stage with the Mekons at Mekonville, and beguiling audiences at Beverley Folk Festival, Stepping Stones Festival, and the Big Comfy Bookshop, Tilly spent the autumn and winter writing brand-new material with influences from a range of different musical backgrounds, in a mission to expand even further.

The new album includes songs about body positivity, battling against ableism, and finding a home in other people.

“Tilly’s songs are masterpieces of emotional raw power... Tilly possesses an uncanny ability to communicate her messages and narratives with total conviction and an immediacy and intellectual as well as emotional depth.'
- FATEA Magazine

“A great voice, an elegant way with words, emotional depth and a general graceful assurance. If she were to become a star it would do credit to stardom.” - Richard Carrington, Cambridge Local Secrets.

‘Wow. She’s incredible. A tremendously exciting artist...’
- BBC Introducing

Support from FAWN:

Fawn is the pet project of transatlantic singer-songwriter Ilana Zsigmond. Born in England to musical parents, Ilana spent the majority of her childhood in New Haven, Connecticut, bouncing back and forth between continents as her parents toured. After settling in York in 2015, she has formed a band that reflects the Americana aesthetic that surrounded her throughout her childhood, with the articulation and dry-wit of her British sensibilities.

Her vocally driven performances and swift, introspective songwriting has made her a staple in the York music scene, supporting the likes of Katie Von Schleicher, Siobhan Wilson, The Howl and the Hum, Amy May Ellis and Tilly Moses.

Her first EP Homebody is an acoustic exploration of the relationships between family, home and self, influenced by her complex struggles with belonging and national identity. Featuring a song each for her mother, father, and sister, Ilana’s songwriting is heartfelt, evocative, and wise beyond her years. Connecticut River, released the following year, was a venture into a larger full-band sound. It continues to gain significant airplay on BBC Introducing, highlighting her pop sensibilities over a ruled notepad of folk grounding, in the ilk of Phoebe Bridgers and Big Thief.

Whether appearing solo or accompanied by her band of merry men, her vocal strength and poetic songwriting remains at the heart of Fawn.

“She has a rare gift... Really looking forward to hearing more.” - Benjamin Francis Leftwich

“Ilana’s songs make the world a better place.” - Amy May Ellis

“One of the best vocalists in Yorkshire... Tranquility on tape.” - Jericho Keys, BBC Introducing North Yorkshire
