About this concert
The Jar Family are a fabulous band: toe-tapplingly good, and lots of fun. This high energy 6 piece, multi-instrumental band from Sunderland each take their turn on lead vocals, share great harmonies and play up a storm; they're truly dynamic live and will happily get the audience stirred up: singing and foot stomping along with the music. The Jar Family have mesmerised, entertained, thrilled and conscripted punters at more than 400 gigs including approximately 75 festival performances. Their fan base is notoriously loud, thirsty, loyal and very large.\nStyled 'Industrial Folk' these musicians from the North East are stunning. As one festival organiser put it: "a superb band... One looks like a 60's Dylan, whilst another is an archetypical stevedore type with waistcoat, bowler and tattoos and looks like he spits rivets into ship plates for a living. Together they make a great sound". These very different, charismatic personalities with a wide range of musical styles work together harmoniously, sharing lead vocals and their clever, highly musical, self-penned songs immediately stay in your mind. They make every gig a party with Echoes of The Beatles, Oasis with originality, edge, grit and truth. You might just recognise the excellent Keith Wilkinson (ex Squeeze, Jools Holland) on bass. If you like local group 'Thy Last Drop', these guys should also be up your street!\nSupport from The Wicked Ravens\nDirty marsh music, psych folk rock a bit roots with a touch of Essex country blues. Sometimes foot stomping, sometimes melancholy.\nThey hail from a small fishing village in north east Essex, and had their first gig in the summer of 2015 as The Wicked Ravens but between the four of them they've lived here and there, been in various bands that have toured, played festivals and gigged with some major artists, had radio play and music publishing contracts.\nThe Wicked Ravens debut album In The Woods was recorded over 2 days in the singer's dining room; they played 14 songs live and pressed record on the 8trk. 10 songs stood out and their first album was born.\nTickets are £9 in advance, available online from our ticket partner, WeGotTickets (booking fee applies), or the Box Office on 01449 774678 (open 10am to 2pm weekdays, closed bank holidays). Also available on the door for £11.\nLicensed bar.

The Jar Family Biography

Hartlepool based The Jar Family are five individual songwriters and musicians, who decided that, rather than strive for success in isolation, they would join forces to pool their talent.

Although on paper the idea of five very different and charismatic personalities with a wide range of musical styles working together harmoniously seems unlikely, the stunning results of their work to date speak for themselves. Taking their name from the donations jar they passed around at early gigs, the band are a tight knit group who had the foresight to realise that they were stronger collectively than they were individually.

To pursue their ambitious vision some tough early decisions had to be made. With few musical opportunities and even less resources at their disposal in their native North East the band temporarily moved away from their families in Hartlepool and relocated to a deserted farm in the remote Cambridgeshire countryside. There they built themselves a basic rehearsal studio and living in a ramshackle collection of old caravans for over a year they started to develop and refine what was to become the Jar Family sound.

A relentless touring schedule, which has seen the band appearing as special guests to a number of established artists such as Jake Bugg, Babyshambles, Alabama 3 and others has brought their raucous and engaging shows to all corners of the country. Picking up an ever-growing army of admirers as a result of this live activity the band has now established a major fan base of fanatical supporters throughout the UK.

The Jar Family will start recording this summer and are planning more live dates throughout 2014.
