Zorá Quartet Biography

Described by the New York Times as having a “melting sound and affecting impetuosity”, the Zorá Quartet first ascent to notoriety came in 2015 after capturing Grand Prize and Gold Medal at the 42nd National Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Shortly after, the Zorá was awarded First Prize at the 2015 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

They have appeared at venues all around the world including the Kennedy Center, Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Konzerthaus in Berlin, and Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, Germany. The Quartet has collaborated with Pulitzer-Prize winning composer Caroline Shaw to perform her works with the NOTUS Contemporary Ensemble in the Fall of 2013. The Quartet has also collaborated with artists like Peter Wiley, Roberto Diaz, Steven Ten enbom, Anne Marie McDermott, Ani Kavafian, Ida Kavafian, David Shifrin and the Shanghai Quartet.

The Zorá Quartet previously held the position of Graduate Quartet in Residence at Indiana University Jacob’s School of Music, and subsequently at the Curtis Institute of Music. Currently, the quartet resides in New York City and is the Graduate String Quartet in Residence at the Montclair State University under the tutelage of the Shanghai Quartet.
