Internationally renowned, award winning guitar virtuoso and crooner George Cole [guitarist for David Grisman, guitar teacher to Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), guitarist for legend Keely Smith] brings his all-star trio to the Piedmont Center for the Arts in celebration of Nat King Cole and his musical legacy. March 2019 marks the centennial of Nat King Cole’s birth and George Cole is honored to celebrate him, keeping his unforgettable music alive! A not to be missed, all ages event featuring George Cole, pianist Greg Sankovich, and bassist Carla Kaufman. The trio performs George Cole’s superb original music and that of Nat King Cole’s legendary decades-spanning career, from the early trio music to his 50’s and 60’s pop hits. From Carnegie Hall to The Paramount, George Cole has performed and toured internationally bringing audiences to their feet at every show. March 22nd at the Piedmont Center for the Arts, he’ll be pulling out all the stops with an engaging, entertaining show saluting a true American genius of Jazz music. About the Nat King Cole Trio: With countless hits and classics, The Nat King Cole Trio were innovators that had profound affect and inspired countless artists including Art Tatum, Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Frank Sinatra, George Benson, Harry Connick Jr., Diana Krall and many groups that utilize the guitar-bass-piano trio format in jazz and rock. When the guitar became electric, the Nat King Cole Trio (Oscar Moore on guitar, Wesley Prince on upright bass, and Nat King Cole on piano) bridged the gap between swing and rock and roll. The era of The Nat King Cole Trio spanned three decades and continues to influence artists around the world. GEORGE COLE: Singer and breakneck acoustic guitarist George Cole inhabits a musical world all his own.... a world in which Django Reinhardt, Nat King Cole and Doc Watson get equal billing with Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Willie Nelson.
