AJ Brown

In July 2011, AJ released his debut album ‘On Song’ (Gateway Records GW 016) during the Wigan International Jazz Festival. This coincided with the launch of his career as a professional musician. Since then he has become a ‘much in-demand’ performer with requests to appear throughout the UK. Performances have included the Southport Melodic Jazz Club’s ‘Jazz on a Winter’s Weekend’ Festival, Ribble Valley Jazz & Blues Club, Boston Spa Jazz Club, Cork International Jazz Festival,Wigan International Jazz Festival, Wigan Jazz Club, Bert’s Jazz Bar, Belfast and a large number of corporate functions, parties, weddings etc. In summer 2012 AJ appeared as guest vocalist with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) as well as travelling to Northern Ireland with SwingShift Big Band to take part in two Festivals celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. In January 2013 whilst on a ten day visit to the USA AJ sang at Birdland, New York and in June 2013 he travelled to South Africa to participate in the Cape Town Big Band Festival and the Grahamstown Festival. Recently AJ has been working closely with BBC Radio 2 presenter and jazz vocalist Clare Teal & the BBC Radio Leeds Big Band performing at the Cinnamon Club and Wakefield Theatre Royal. AJ’s repertoire includes music from Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Mel Tormé, Matt Monro, Stevie Wonder and Lennon & McCartney, His own compositions have quickly earned considerable popularity and are always included as part of his performances. With all proceeds going to the ‘End Polio. Now' campaign the single sold worldwide and was broadcast on many radio stations including the Christmas play list of Smooth FM. AJ is currently working on his second album entitled ‘Now & Again’ (a double CD featuring new arrangements of well known songs as well as original songs).
