Talons Biography

Talons are an instrumental band, who call the backwater town of Hereford their home. Forging explosive energy, delicate subtleties and fractured song structures, Talons possess a fascinating sense of urgency and drive, with a sound that both soothes and savages in equal measure. Signed to UK independent label Big Scary Monsters, debut single ‘The Pearl’ was released in August 2009, followed by a series of limited edition split singles. An anthology containing all early works by the band, entitled ‘Commemorations’ was released in September 2010. In November 2010, Talons further consolidated their place amongst their peers following the release of their debut album, ‘Hollow Realm’. The album received widespread praise in the press. "Just like the claws that provide the band with their name, these are compositions of sharp edge which will carve into the senses like bear traps around wayward ankles". BBC Music The band then embarked on a frantic touring schedule, playing across the UK and Europe throughout the next two years. Four years later, Talons have returned with their second album, 'New Topographics'. The albums themes and concepts were in part inspired by the writing methods that led to its creation. With members of Talons spread out across the length and breadth of the country, the process of writing the album involved ideas being sent around digitally and built upon, before being rearranged collaboratively, during a number of weekends back in Hereford. The music was inspired by this process of increased interconnectivity despite the limitations of the geographical divide between members. The music therefore builds on themes surrounding the current state of “hyper-modernity” and attempts to dissect the shared relationships we have with the places and architecture that surrounds us. 'New Topographics' reflects a change in mood and tempo from previous material, incorporating stronger neo-classical influences as well as bringing a more rhythmic and expansive sound. The album was recorded in July 2013 with long time collaborator Tom Woodhead (¡Forward Russia!) at Greenmount studios, Leeds. The studio itself is built within an old church, which provided the perfect atmosphere for the commanding orchestral sound of the album. http://www.gotalons.com UK BOOKING - haydn@northernmusic.co.uk
