About this concert
NYC Pianist Ehud Asherie Ehud Asherie, "a master of swing and stride" (The New Yorker), is a jazz pianist who integrates the venerable New York piano tradition into his inventive style. Born in Israel in 1979, Asherie lived in Italy for six years before his family moved to New York. Though he began playing piano as a child, his passion for jazz came laterwith a Thelonious Monk cassette tapeand his first visit to Smalls Jazz club in Greenwich Village. Largely self-taught, or rather, old-schooled, Asherie learned the ropes at Smalls, spending the wee small hours of his early teens becoming a fixture of the late-night jam sessions. Mentored by the late Frank Hewitt, Asherie began to develop his virtuosity and his ear for clean, crisp lines (The Star-Ledger). From Smalls to the Rainbow Room, from Lincoln Center to The Village Vanguard, Asherie has since worked with a broad range of musicians including: Eric Alexander, Roy Ayers, Peter Bernstein, Jesse Davis, Bobby Durham, Vince Giordano, Wycliffe Gordon, Scott Hamilton, Ryan Kisor, Jane Monheit, Catherine Russell, Ken Peplowski and Clark Terry. Beyond his dedication to jazz music, Ehud Asherie has also developed a passion for traditional Brazilian music. His appreciation and profound knowledge of the music, language and culture are the foundation of Asheries project entitled Bina & Ehud, a duo formed in 2003, with Brazilian guitarist, Bina Coquet. Asherie has toured clubs and festivals around the world, including South America, Europe and Asia. Asheries playing can be heard on countless recordings, including the 2010 Grammy Award winning soundtrack of HBOs Boardwalk Empire. He recently released his twelfth album as leader entitled Shuffle Along (Blue Heron Records), a solo piano performance. For this special event, Ehud will be joined by Los Angeles rhythm section mates Katie Thiroux and Matt Witek. WHEN: Doors open at 1:30 pm. Concert will begin at 2:00 pm sharp. Please allow ample time for street parking prior to the performance. Reservations in advance are a MUST. We will be unable to promise a seat to anyone who arrives without a reservation. http://ehudpiano.com

Katie Thiroux Biography

A triple threat talent from Los Angeles, Katie Thiroux has garnered considerable attention for her bravura bass playing, assured singing and compelling compositions. Her debut album, Introducing Katie Thiroux (2015), received international critical acclaim including "Debut Record of the Year" from the Huffington Post, All About Jazz, Jazz Journalists Association and "Top 5 Debut Records of the Year" from NPR Jazz Critics Poll. Lending contemporary flair to mainstream stylings, Thiroux carries on the hard swinging tradition of such bass masters as Ray Brown and John Clayton, while channeling the buoyant vocal finesse of iconic singers including Anita O’Day, Chet Baker and Ella Fitzgerald. Thiroux offers in-the-moment jazz that draws upon the rich history of the music, from swing to bebop and beyond.

Thiroux’s sophmore release, Off Beat, features Ken Peplowski and Justin Kauflin and will be released on Capri Records in the Summer of 2017 with touring starting in early 2017. Her debut album "Introducing Katie Thiroux" is available now.
