Baroque Monody Biography

Formed in depths of the winter of 2013, Baroque Monody is the shared vision of two musicians. The concept and vision of lead singer, guitarist, keyboardist and song writer Jennifer Rose (Ex-Sam Goodwill), the band was born when guitarist and songwriter Rick Polo (Ex-Relic, The Denial Stage) sought out Rose to front a goth/sludge project. Rose brought her psychedelic and shoegaze influences to the table, and the duo immediately began writing songs that range in style from alternative, goth, shoegaze, post-punk and doom metal. The material resulted in the "Empress(III)/Emperor(IV)" split album. Based off the Empress and Emperor tarot card archetypes, the Empress trilogy became the concept of Rose, while the remaining four Emperor tracks with Polo at the helm. Rounded out by bassist Angelo Scordo and drummer Anthony Rapone of the band Idle Shades, Baroque Monody began previewing the material live at high profile appearances and live performances in and around the Northeast Ohio region. In late 2013, the group cut "Empress(III)/Emperor(IV)" at MindRocket Studios with producer/engineer Josh Roman, releasing it in the winter of 2014. By 2015, after a year- and-a-half of supporting their debut, Baroque Monody began work on their sophomore record, "Aphrodite Laughs." Drummer Joe Carbon and bassist Charles Francis-Xavier Coriston officially joined the band, contributed to the writing sessions, and returned to MindRocket Studio for the "Aphrodite Laughs" sessions. "Aphrodite Laughs" will be nationally released on Aug. 19, 2016. Following up with another concept album, the record is dedicated to a dozen highly influential yet tragically unsung females who made an impact on the world, and changed the way women have been viewed in one way or another. With tributes to the likes of Mary Pickford, Judy Garland, Dinah Washington, Bettie Page and Amy Winehouse to name a few, "Aphrodite Laughs" is as diverse musically as it is conceptually, showcasing the band experimenting and expanding well upon the sound established by their debut. The album can be purchased and downloaded at baroquemonody.bandcamp.com. "The greatest mystery is not that we have been flung at random between this profusion of matter and the stars, but that within this prison we can draw from ourselves images powerful enough to deny our nothingness." - André Malraux
