About this concert
London-born singer-songwriter Ana Silvera and 4-time DMA winner, Danish violin virtuoso & multi-instrumentalist Bjarke Falgren perform a mixture of Ana’s original compositions and re-worked traditional folk songs. This captivating collaboration began last year with a shoot for Møn Sessions and two consecutive nights playing a packed out venue for Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Their instant meeting of musical minds culminated in a collaboration for Ana’s winter-themed EP, ‘Arcana’ (Mirabeau Recordings), which gained national airplay in the UK (BBC Radio 6 & 3).Ana Silvera’s folk and bluegrass-tinged tunes are lyrical, intimate and emotive. Drawing on stories from her own eventful life as well as folklore and myth, she accompanies herself on guitar, piano and harmonium. Ana’s songs are poignant snap-shots, that weave poetry and melody to magical effect.Bjarke Falgren has passionately dedicated himself to mastering the music that flows through his old string instruments. In this constellation with Ana, he plays violin, viola, cello and mandolin. Svend Asmussen – considered by many to be the world’s greatest jazz violinist – designated Bjarke as his successor, and in 2017 he received “The Ellen and Svend Asmussen Prize” and the Trelleborg Culture Prize “Grundtvig-Marie Prisen”.Bjarke is also working and performing with groups such as: Catbird/Billie Koppel, Hot n Spicy + Mads Mathias, Filip Jers & Bjarke Falgren quintet, World On A String, Paolo Russo & Bjarke Falgren duo, Bjarke Falgren & Sönke Meinen Duo and Jens Lysdal duo/trio.
