About this concert
The band dubbed “The Last Great Aussie Pub Rock Band’ are coming back to FNQ to continue their celebration of all things ‘Raaawwk…...’ The Screaming Jets will kick off in Townsville and finish in Gympie for 7 exclusive shows during between May 31st and June 9th 2019 for MMM & QLive with local bands Clam Sandwich and Concrete Palms. Born out of Newcastle in 1989, The Screaming Jets have been an enduring force in the Australian music landscape for nearly 3 decades. With 8 studio albums, (3 Gold & 1 Platinum) and another original album on the way, The Jets have much to celebrate and a whole lot more rock in them going forward. In 2019, The Screaming Jets will celebrate their 30th anniversary in the rock ‘n’ roll game following a stellar few years. The ‘Chrome’ album, released in 2016, reinstated The Jets as a ‘National treasure, Australians should treasure more…’ and received the coveted Hot Metal Online award for ‘Best of Album’, beating releases from hi profile internationals such as Dead Daisies, Cheap Trick and Metallica for the #1 spot. The singles ‘Automatic Cowboy’ and ‘Cash In Your Ticket’ were both added across the board to the MMM network nationally as well as across other profile rock radio stations across Australia. Released on the independent label, Dinner For Wolves, ‘Chrome’ achieved a Top 40 ARIA debut upon release, and has also crossed over into the digital music realm with streaming and digital numbers more than tripling in the last 2 years and continuing to grow exponentially.. The Screaming Jets followed up in 2017 with two hugely successful national tours, culminating in the ‘They Who Rock’ tour with rock stalwarts The Baby Animals. 12 sold out shows across the country, proved that radio rock is still alive and proud in Oz! The Screaming Jets radio history delivers a long line of high rotation hits since their inception. In 1980 Triple M Sydney was launched and 11 years later, in 1991, The Screaming Jets released what was to become an Australian rock classic titled “Better”. Fast-forward to August 2017, Triple M Sydney crowned “Better" (penned by former member Grant Walmsley) as the most played single by an Australian artist in its 37 year history. “Better” has been played over 5500 times since it’s release 26 years ago! Sister station Triple M Melbourne reports that “Better” holds the #2 spot on their list of most played Aussie artists. Melbourne locals Hunters & Collectors “Holy Grail” took out the #1 spot. This story rolls out similarly across many radio networks in Australia. For much of their illustrious career, The Screaming Jets have enjoyed consistent success on commercial radio with songs like ‘Helping Hand’, ‘Shivers’, ‘Shine On’ ‘Stop The World’ ‘October Grey’ ‘Eve Of Destruction’, ‘Sad Song’, ‘Friend of Mine’ ‘Cash In Your Ticket’ & ‘Automatic Cowboy’. 2018 was originally destined to be a quiet year, in preparation for the 30th anniversary in 2019. It has been anything but that!!! The Jets finally made it onto the coveted Red Hot Summer tour in Jan/Feb with Suzi Quatro, The Angels, Baby Animals and other legend Aussie acts to a completely sold out national run, playing to over 50,000 rock punters. So popular were The Jets on this tour, they’ve been confirmed on the next Red Hot Summer run in early 2019 also. July saw the release of the much talked about ‘Gotcha Covered’ covers album. A collection of 15 iconic Aussie songs spanning the mid 1960’s to late 1990’s, paying homage to a talented cross-section of Australian music history. “Gotcha Covered” offers up rebirthed Australian classics stamped with the unique sound that is synonymous with The Screaming Jets. A #1 iTunes & Top 20 ARIA chart debut was achieved along with a consistent Top 5 position in the Australian Independent Record charts continuously for 4 months following it’s release. With the “Gotcha Covered” album, the Jets have continued to enjoy strong support from commercial radio with this album of iconic Aussie covers with ‘across the board’ ads of tracks such as Stevie Wrights “Wedding Ring” and Goanna’s “Razors Edge”
