Jan Nemecek Biography
Musician and sound designer Jan Nemeček focusses on granular synthesis, deconstructed recordings and borderline sub bass movements. His beetless work unfolds with patience and gains a compelling drive as it evolves.
After growing up fascinated by early prog rock and "kosmische" music, he experimented with his own longform ambient recordings and tape loops. Having emerged in the early '00s as one of the most versatile and prolific electronic musicians from Serbia, he continuously gained an international reputation as a staple of the advanced club scene, and as a driving force in the Balkans’ vivid improvisatory and electronic music scenes.
His first break was doing sound design for sought-after hardware synthesizers such as the Hartmann Neuron. Until 2014, he co-curated the CC-based label Norbu. He gained international respect from critics and listeners with his albums All Things (2011) as well as numerous EPs on Norbu. In 2014, he released the album Fragmented. In 2018, Jan Nemeček releases his fifth album Recurrences through the –OUS label.
Jan Nemeček also collaborates in numerous projects both in the club and experimental contexts. Collaborations include STEPNƗAK (with Kӣr), Brickwall Brigade (with Goran Simonoski), J-House (with Danilo Tomic) and live performances with Lukatoyboy. He is a resident at Belgrade’s acclaimed underground institution Drugstore.
