Melany Watson Biography
Fans have dubbed soul-pop singer-songwriter Melany Watson’s aesthetic as a mix of modern and classic soul with a dash of southern ambience. Melany’s musicality embraces soul, especially 1990s pop-soul artists like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey, and a tastefully textured vibe that conjures throwback Carol King writing style. A deeper dive into her musicality reveals her songcraft is steeped in singer-songwriter icons like Carole King, the classic phrasing of Etta James, and the storyteller lineage of country music passed on to her from her Texas upbringing. Her debut EP, Lilith In Virgo, produced Ross Bridgeman, is a defining release where a young artist has come into her own and transcended the boundaries of her influences. The EP will be preceded by the single and accompanying video, “Illuminate.”
Melany previously has performed with Trisha Yearwood on PBS National Television for "Christmas at Belmont,” she’s performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Today Show, Live with Kelly, The View, Good Morning America and Late Night with Seth Meyers. Melany has backed artists Tori Kelly, The Roots, BIRDY, Alessia Cara, Marc E. Bassey, Bebe Rexha, MAZ, Justin Stanton, Lorde and Leona Lewis. Melany is represented by the exclusive performing rights organization SESAC. This summer, she was awarded the highly coveted Abe Olman Scholarship, joining highly respected previous winners such as John Legend, Comic Heroes, Bebe Rexha and Lori McKenna. Melany’s songwriting has also been praised in the tastemaking publication, American Songwriter with a plum “Daily Discovery” feature. Recently, her songwriting received another boost when Melany’s song “Point Blank” (sung by Donna Missal) was featured on the Fox TV comedy-drama fantasy series Lucifer. Currently, she’s a staff vocalist for Vamnation and a professional plus-size model with NYC TRUE Model Management.
Melany is currently working on her first Full Length Album with Guitar player/Cowriter/Producer Brad Allen Williams (Jose James, Bilal, Cory Henry). The album features music written with Brad Allen Williams, Justin Stanton (Snarky Puppy), John Flanagan (Faultlines) and many more.
