Peter McDermott Biography
New York, NY - A 20-something New Yorker looking at life and love through rose tinted beer goggles. Sounds like the beginning to a sappy romantic comedy, but is in fact the fuel behind one of the year’s most intriguing independent musical releases. ONE BIG PICTURE SHOW, the first release by New York artist, Peter McDermott.
Peter McDermott started out in music by playing in the coffee shops and garages of the budding Long Island music scene. McDermott gained notice in the greater New York music area, as the drummer and creative force behind Long Island’s garage rock band, Vitality. Inspired by other Long Island acts, such as Brand New and Taking Back Sunday, Vitality drew audiences to prominent LI and NYC venues, such as The Studio at Webster Hall and The Vibe Lounge. On the verge of a national tour, the band disbanded and Peter was forced to start from scratch.
Going back to his roots; began playing acoustic sets at open mic nights. Performing and writing with just his acoustic guitar, McDermott was able to create songs in a simplistic nature, drawing inspiration from artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Ryan Adams. The pop nature of his writing and his energetic stage presence gained the attention of platinum-record producer Rob Freeman (Gym Class Heroes, Cobra Starship). With the help of Freeman, McDermott recorded ONE BIG PICTURE SHOW.
Comprised of melon collie acoustic ballads, up-pace love songs and drunken party anthems, "Picture Show" provides music lovers with a release that is both heartfelt and fun. By blending the influences of his garage rock roots, his electric performance style, and stripped back lyrics, McDermott has curated a unique sound that has something that can appeal to any music fan
