About this concert
Rachel Marie follows in a tradition of unapologetically forthright women folksingers, with songs that hearken to the "overstuffed lines of Tori Amos, philosophical turn of Indigo Girls, and lilting vocals like Joni Mitchell." The social awareness of folk meets the introspection of the singer-songwriter tradition with a moderate dose of snark. Passion for using the power of her voice to shed light on injustice gives rise to poignant poetic statements on subjects from heartbreak and death to police brutality and immigration. An endearingly quirky stage presence as honest as her songs keeps audiences charmed. Rachel has shared the Burren's stage with Antje Duvekot, Michelle Lewis, and Lex Land. Her latest full-length album, False Foundations, was released in May 2018. www.rachelmarie.com Melanie Brulée What most might call Americana, folk-rock or country music, Toronto-based Melanie Brulée colours her own, bringing a vintage respect to a modern sound by intertwining surf-style guitar tones and catchy melody hooks - all with the vibe of a speakeasy cabaret. Her music has been on regular rotation on CBC and Sirius XM and her third album Fires, Floods & Things We Leave Behind, exploring themes of family, loss and addiction, was released in October 2018. https://www.melaniebrulee.com/
