Mark Stanway, formerly of British melodic rock band MAGNUM, embarks on a fresh chapter in his career as he takes to the UK’s stages during 2018 to share with audiences a lifetime of experiences within the music business in this unique “storyteller’s night” of music and conversation.
Join Mark as he reminisces about his long and colourful career, sharing tales from a career than has spanned over four decades as a touring and recording musician, performing with some of the music world’s biggest names. In addition to his lengthy association with Magnum, Mark has also played with legendary artists such as Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin), Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy), Roy Wood (Wizard/Move/ELO) and M3 Classic Whitesnake, amongst numerous others.
In 2015 Mark catalogued some of the interesting and often outrageously amusing anecdotes from the road and studio and published his first book Close To The Mark. This stage show, which will be illustrated with a slide and video show featuring previously unseen material from Mark’s private archive, will delve deeper into Mark’s reservoir of entertaining stories collected over the years. There will also be questions and answers sessions, a keyboard
demonstration and impromptu playing that demonstrates Mark’s diversity. And the evening would of course not be complete without live performances of some of Mark’s best loved contributions to Magnum’s rich musical legacy. There may also be a special guest or two at select shows….
Throughout his 36-year tenure as member of Magnum, Mark Stanway’s distinctive keyboard stylings were an integral part of the band’s sound. Between 1980 and 2016 Mark appeared on nineteen Magnum studio albums as well as numerous live and compilation releases, achieving high album and singles chart positions in both the UK and Europe.
Magnum also gained a reputation as one of hardest-working bands on the touring circuit, delighting audiences with concerts that were always captivating both musically and visually. Highlights of the band’s performance career include regular sold-out theatre tours including a memorable five nights at London’s legendary Hammersmith Odeon performed during 1988 together with headline appearances at Birmingham NEC and Wembley Arena, as well as appearances at major festivals such as Reading Rock Festival (1980, 1983, 1987), Monsters of Rock at Donington Park (1985), Milton Keynes Bowl (1986), and High Voltage (2010).
Mark remains highly active within the music industry and presently records and performs with Grand Slam, whose membership features a veritable “who’s who” of British rock - musicians who have played with Magnum, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, Gary Moore, Queen, UFO, Stampede and Snakecharmer. A Grand Slam album and tour is planned for later in 2018. Mark also recently appeared as guest keyboard player with the Sweden Rock Symphony Orchestra at Sweden’s most prestigious rock festival, performing with the likes of Joe Lynn Turner (Rainbow), Dan McCafferty (Nazareth), Tarja Turenen (Nightwish) and John Lawton (Uriah Heep).
With Magnum being blessed with what could only be described as the most loyal and supportive fan-base any band could wish for, An Evening With Mark Stanway is expected to attract great interest and capacity crowds as fans cherish this unique opportunity to engage with one of the UK’s most respected keyboard players in such an intimate setting.
