Noruz Biography

Noruz - sounds for the new day. Formed in 2013 by bassist Amina Michele Scott and trumpeter Cyrus Nabipoor, NORUZ is a jazz fusion sextet out of New Orleans, LA focused on groove, melody and improvisation. Influence and inspiration is drawn from jazz fusion heavyweights The Headhunters and Miles Davis’ Electric Band as well as modern giants Snarky Puppy and the Robert Glasper Experiment. Equally adept in the studio as on the stage, NORUZ will release their debut full length record, The Witching Hour, on March 20, 2018 at Three Keys inside the Ace Hotel, New Orleans.

The band has released two singles from their forthcoming record. Breaking form from the traditional single, "Grey Sky" is the longest song on the record spanning over 6 minutes. The track features extended solos from saxophonist Ari Kohn, heard here on flute, and keyboardist Jake Hickey, who is also the song’s composer. The 2nd single, Alchemy, was composed by Amina Scott and features guest vocals by Honey Savage and additional percussion by Wayne Matthews Jr. Both singles are in current rotation on local New Orleans radio stations WWOZ and WTUL and can be found on all digital music outlets.
