About this concert
A night of Anarchist Disco! Irish/English trad! Spoken Word, Storytelling, Comedy, and More! With Stephanie Blossom - Tom & Jane - Kemi Lofinmakin - JUHA ‘Tis the season where all across the globe, folks come together in holiday celebrations. Maybe you're celebrating Hanukka, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Eid. Maybe you're celebrating the winter solstice, or maybe it's that time of year where you sacrifice small children to your demon god. But with ROCK THE MANGER we celebrate one thing that we all have in common: so far, we have all survived this thing called life. Thank you for sticking around on this planet - it's no small feat! Come celebrate your survival. KEMI LOFINMAKIN Kemi is mad about music! And dancing! And acting! And just generally running around the place performing for whoever would watch her! Growing up in Nigeria to middle class parents, she wasn’t encouraged to develop her creative and artistic side; it took Kemi another 30 years before she summoned up the courage to follow her dreams. Since 2012, Kemi has been creating amazing work and being her authentic self! Kemi is real, Kemi is deep, Kemi is a lot of fun. Get ready for some excitement! Check Kemi out in: - Hot Pepper, the lighthearted revenge guide web series! http://youtu.be/zUo-YCSDES0 - And also on ARTS NIGHT, as aired on BBC 2!:. http://bbc.in/1XCMejp TOM AND JANE Thomas Alexis-Webb of rap-metal outfit BENZOKAYN joins Juha's keyboardist Jane Hall to create a very different sound to what they do with their usual band! Performance Story Teller Stephanie Blossom: the imagined love child of Pam Ayres & Ghostface Killah. A force of nature, shining light on personal, social, and age old affairs. Performs with a gentle charm and humility thought-provoking and forthright poetry. Since starting to perfect her craft on the open mic scene last summer, Stephanie has begun to feature at and host events. Writing for herself, Stephanie shares her poems as an extension of their creation and a love of performing. JUHA Every Step You Take Is A Migration! Juha began as a hip hop crew in Hawaii and is now a London-based anarchist disco - or, "the sound of Prince and Manu Chao kissing." Songs cover human rights, the refugee crisis, mental health, and good ol' fashioned sexy goofy sleaze. Juha is party music for the Brexit blues, yo! - Check out “Every Step You Take Is A Migration” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnAJ1xqDt1E - www.JuhaMusic.com AND SPECIAL GUESTS! Juha Biography

"Some artists are quick to describe their work as 'beyond category' when, in fact, they are easy to categorize; in other words, the artists aren’t as daring or unorthodox as they like to think they are. But Juha really is, and has hit an artistic home run." - Alex Henderson

Every Step You Take Is A Migration! Juha began in Ha'iku, Hawaii, as a hip hop outfit with a Middle Eastern twist. Now a sonic stewpot brewing sounds in Hackney, London.

The debut 'Polari' album fused elements of Middle Eastern, Hawaiian, and punk music over a hip hop back-drop - with topics including homophobia in hip hop, Palestinian dislocation, and a World Without Borders. It scampered to #1 on the Outvoice album chart. 'The Grooms of God' followed with its mix of Middle Eastern disco, electro-classical, and dub, as Juha told stories of man-eating tigers and male prostitutes - while not forgetting to throw in goofy rhymes about the frontman's dick.

A cover of Nina Simone’s “Be My Husband” was released with lyrics tweaked for the age of marriage equality, and “Bloodstains and a Crow" addresses mental health amidst an epidemic of teen suicides.

And now: Every Step You Take Is A Migration. Our souls are never confined to a nation.
