About this concert
Having written songs in English as a teenager, Bondì developed an interest in theatre and moved to Rome, graduating as an actor at the Accademia d’Arte Drammatica Corrado Pani. During his time in Rome he was drawn back to the language of his heritage, Sicilian, and he started working on the songs that would make up his debut album, Sfardo. In 2017 Sfardo was released in ten countries, including Italy, Austria, Belgium, Brasil, France, Germany, Luxemburg, Holland, Spain, Switzerland and UK, with the lyrics translated into six languages including Italian, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and German. Amongst the multitude of praise and support for Sfardo, including airplay on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Ulster, Alessio was described on Italian radio as being “half way between Jeff Buckley and the Sicilian singer songwriter Rosa Balistreri”.
Nivuru was recorded and produced by Fabio Rizzo at Indigo Studios, Palermo, Sicily. Alessio will be touring with his band across Europe in the Autumn 2018, and will hit the UK in Spring 2019, more news to follow. With Nivuru he will continue to establish himself as one of Europe’s most intriguing and multifaceted explorers and alchemists of music from all across the globe.
