The Headcutters Biography
THE HEADCUTTERS de Itajaí – SC, é considerada uma das mais renomadas bandas da nova safra de Blues do Brasil. Com o timbre e a sonoridade dos anos 50 e 60, segue a linha das lendárias gravadoras de Blues de Chicago daquela época.
O nome vem como uma homenagem aos grandes ídolos do Blues, Muddy Waters, Little Walter e Jimmy Rogers que no começo dos anos 50 eram chamados The Headhunters, o nome da banda THE HEADCUTTERS vem como uma alusão a estes grandes mestres que são a grande fonte de inspiração da banda.
Com shows contagiantes, muito carisma e performances empolgantes, a banda vem conquistando o público por onde tem passado. Tem como formação quatro amigos de infância que ainda moram no mesmo bairro que se conheceram, são eles: Joe Marhofer na harmônica e vocal, Ricardo Maca na guitarra e vocal, Arthur “Catuto” Garcia no contra-baixo acústico e Leandro “Cavera” Barbeta na bateria.
Realizaram duas turnês internacionais bem sucedidas, uma na Argentina (2015) e outra nos EUA (2014) sendo esta com 14 shows, percorrendo 5 estados e 18 cidades.
O destaque desta turnê nos EUA fica por conta dos shows nos lendários Festivais: King Biscuit Blues Festival em Helena, Arkansas (Festival com mais de 40 anos de existência) e também no Pinetop Perkins Blues Festival em Clarksdale, Mississippi.
The Headcutters foi a primeira banda brasileira a tocar em ambos os Festivais, feito jamais realizado até então por brasileiros nos EUA.
A banda já participou de vários festivais de Blues e também já produziu shows e dividiu o palco com várias feras do Blues Nacional e Internacional como: Phil Guy (irmão de Buddy Guy), Mud Morganfield (filho de Muddy Waters) Eddie C. Campbell, Kim Wilson, Billy Flinn, Gary Smith, Billy Branch, Wallace Coleman, Carlos Johnson, Joe Filisko & Eric Noden, Bob Stroger, James Wheeler, J.J. Jackson, Lynwood Slim, Mitch Kashmar, Igor Prado, Blues Etílicos, Flávio Guimarães, entre outros.
Com aproximadamente 15 anos de estrada a banda THE HEADCUTTERS tem muito orgulho em representar este ritmo irresistível que influênciou e agrada várias gerações durante décadas no mundo inteiro.
A banda possui três CD’s e um DVD lançados, todos eles gravados em equipamentos analógicos e valvulados sempre buscando os timbres e texturas sonoras dos anos 50 e 60. O primeiro CD lançado foi “Back to 50’s” (2009) gravado durante três madrugadas no Museu Histórico de Itajaí. O DVD “Sweet Home Blues” (2011) captado com imagens em Full HD em um ambiente em que a banda se reúne constantemente chamado o “Sótão do Blues”.
O segundo CD “Shake That Thing” (2013) conta com a participação de alguns artistas como Igor Prado (BRA), Omar Coleman (EUA) e Richard “Rip Lee” Pryor (EUA) filho do lendário gaitista Snooky Pryor. Este álbum recebeu vários elogios de especialistas de Blues no mundo inteiro e foi eleito o #18 melhor disco de Blues lançado no mundo no ano de 2013 por críticos dos Estados Unidos.
Já o último trabalho lançado foi o CD “Walkin’ In USA” (2015), gravado durante a passagem da banda pela Califórnia em turnê nos EUA que aconteceu no ano passado (2014). Foram 28 dias com 14 shows em 5 estados diferentes. Um verdadeiro sonho realizado. O CD conta com a participação especial de Jon Atkinson e Danny Michel além das faixas bônus com The Silver Kings (Mark Mumea & Jerry Careaga).
Um novo disco que está em fase de finalização foi gravado ao vivo na Argentina durante a turnê 2015 e será lançado em breve.

“The Headcutters”, from Itajaí – SC, is considered to be one of the most highlighted blues bands in Brazil. Using the 50s ands 60s sound and style, they follow the legendaries Blues records labels from Chicago of that time.
The band’s name serves as tribute to the Blues idols from the 50s, such as Muddy Waters, Little Walter and Jimmy Rogers, who in that period were called “The Headhunters”. Thus, THE HEADCUTTERS comes as a reference to those great masters who were clear and strong influence to the band.
Performing very charismatic, exciting and catching concerts, the band has been gathering a faithful audience in every show since it’s beginning. Featuring Joe Marhofer (harmonica and vocals), Ricardo Maca (guitar and vocals), Arthur “Catuto” Garcia (acoustic bass) and Leandro “Cavera” Barbeta (drums).
They held two successful international tours, one in Argentina (2015 ) and another in the US (2014) and this with 14 shows, covering 5 states and 18 cities.
The highlight of the USA tour is up to the shows in the legendary Festivals: King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena, Arkansas (Festival with over 40 years of existence) and also in Pinetop Perkins Blues Festival in Clarksdale Mississippi.

The first CD released “Back to 50’s” (2009) recorded for three dawn in the History Museum of Itajaí (Brazil). The DVD “Sweet Home Blues” (2011) captured with Full HD images in an environment where the band meets regularly called the “Attic Blues”.
The second CD “Shake That Thing” (2013) which includes the participation of some artists like Igor Prado (BRA), Omar Coleman (USA) and Richard “Rip Lee” Pryor (USA) son of legendary harmonica player Snooky Pryor. This album has received several compliments from Blues experts worldwide and was voted the # 18 best album of Blues released worldwide in 2013 by critics of the United States.
The last job released was the CD “Walkin’ In USA” (2015), recorded during the band’s trip through California on tour in the US that happened last year (2014). They were 28 days with 14 shows in 5 different states. A real dream come true. The CD features a guest appearance by Jon Atkinson and Danny Michel addition of bonus tracks with The Silver Kings (Mark Mumea & Jerry Careaga).
A new CD that is being finalized was recorded live in Argentina during the tour in 2015 and will be released soon.
