Thomas and the Shakes Biography
In the rolling hills of Southeastern Minnesota, deep in the back woods and surrounding the warm glow of the fire, you will hear the sound of jubilation. You will hear the guitar and drums and voices singing along. There is no traffic or street lights; no commotion from the hustle of the world; just good people under stars and moonlight. It is pure. It is the sound of love and laughter shared amongst the closest friends and family. It is the same love of music that inspires Thomas and The Shakes. It is with them at every performance; it is passion. It has soul and energy. Perhaps most appropriately captured in the title of their first EP released in 2014 “All My Favorite Things Are Free,” it cannot be bought. It is real.
Originating in 2013 out of Rochester, MN, the duo of Thomas and the Shakes continue to cultivate their own unique, dynamic sound. Featuring strong, warm vocals and a one-of-a-kind percussion kit, Thomas Wescott and Garrett Kolb keep delivering authentic stomp-and-clap roots/folk/reggae acoustic rock. Each having their own extensive, independent backgrounds and long family musical traditions, you’ll find influences from far and wide leaving little of the musical universe untraveled during any performance, while their shared rock and reggae appetite always remains evident.
