Katy Collins Biography

Singer/songwriter Katy Collins moved to Nashville in early 2013, and got to work. For the next two years, she refined her guitar playing skills, co-wrote with other musicians, and began entertaining wherever she could. She hosted writers rounds in multiple downtown Nashville venues, was entertaining for corporate clientele from all over the world and was named “Songwriter to Watch” by NSAI (Nashville Songwriters Association International). Katy began developing who she was as an artist, shaking hands with industry peers and professionals as much as possible.

In April of 2015, she received a life-changing phone call. Her father Michael’s four year battle with cancer was coming to an end. After the loss of her biggest fan, Katy put her head down and started making music for her debut project, Turn the Music Up. The five song EP was released on all music streaming platforms on April 1, 2016, just shy of a year of her dad’s passing. She signed a global distribution deal with ONErpm and headlined release performances, both in Nashville and across her home state of Ohio. Katy’s old soul edge, pop lyrics and bluesy melodies, mixed with her dynamic stage presence and powerhouse vocals, have entertained all types of audiences, generating fans each step of the way.

After gearing up to play a string of venues promoting her EP release, Katy’s music career came to an abrupt stop. On May 28, 2016, she was attacked in the face, by a pit bull. Her team of surgeons at Vanderbilt Medical Center did what they could to save her mouth and lips, but were unsure if she would ever speak the same way again, let alone sing.

After one month of no talking, an all liquid diet, two reconstructive surgeries, over 400 stitches in her face and mouth and 10 months of physical therapy, Katy began piecing her music career back together. She remained positive and patient, with the help of family and friends, giving her the hope, strength and tools to get back on her feet. The physical and emotional scars Katy carries every day have become a constant reminder of how lucky she is to have found her voice again and her new smile.

In mid 2017, Katy slowly began writing and performing out. Full band showcase performances held at venues such as The Basement and Blue Bar, entertaining for charity events and private functions, and writer’s rounds at music spots like Belcourt Taps and The Bridge Bar solidified she was back for more. She has also been sought after to write songs for multiple corporate companies including Hosts Global, Perfectly Posh, NECA, Meetings & Incentives Worldwide, Parallon and LBMC Technologies.

Over the past three years, Katy learned how to deal with unbearable loss and life changing suffering. It was also during that time that she learned how to love. On April 28, 2018, Katy married her best friend, Erica, giving her all the more reason to be grateful for where she is, and having the most compassionate soul cheering her on. With a new brand, new music on the horizon, and a new outlook on life, Katy Collins is back. Stay tuned!
