About this concert
'Joel ‘Veena’ Eisenkramer, presents a concert of traditional North Indian evening ragas played on the 20-stringed Indian slide guitar accompanied on tabla (TBA). Joel has spent the last 11 years studying and performing Hindustani classical music, traveling back and forth between his native southern Vermont and India to learn in the traditional Guru-Shishya (student-disciple) oral tradition. First having studied 10 years with master Indian slide guitarist, Dr. Ranjan Kumar of Delhi (disciple of Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt), Joel is now receiving advanced training from sarod maestro Pt Alok Lahiri of Kolkata in the Maihar gharana style of instrumental music.

Joel Veena Biography
A chance discovery of the work of Indian slide guitarist Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt a decade ago turned into a life-changing event for Joel. He immediately dedicated himself to the instrument, studying under – and eventually performing alongside – some of the most renowned names in Indian classical music. With three albums now under his belt, and an extensive touring schedule that has taken him across India, the US, and most recently Europe, Joel has worked to expand the sonic palette of the Indian slide guitar by working with a host of musicians in a variety of styles.
