Killwave Biography

Killwave™ call to mind musical luminaries like David Bowie, Joy Division and Bauhaus but bring something all their own to these influences with a hint of darkwave, a dash of Brit pop and being from Chicago certainly industrial rock. The group is made up of George Pinto (vocals), Jim King (guitars & synths), Erik Pedtke (bass) and Bran X (drums). Press leading up to the release of Death by Distortion include local weekly newspaper’s Gossip Wolf column describing Killwave as “industrial-electro rockers.. who sound like mid-90s Bowie singing for Front 242” - Chicago Reader “It's a fine line between homage and pastiche. Interpol and Editors trod it pretty well, but did they have as much fun? … The Chicago band's incessant and tight playing ensures a suitably theatrical impact. With solid hooks and spooky inter-woven ideas matched with playful shadowy imagery.” - Tasty Fanzine – UK “Killwave isn't strictly a new wave band…They've woven in industrial rawness, metal guitar progressions and the vocals smack of what I've always thought of as horror punk…Basically, there's a whole lot going on here and whole lot of it is excellent. A very well-produced album, the effort they put in their irreverence is apparent and laudable.” - Space Rock Mountain “Killwave's music mostly refers to industrial, mechatronic post-punk, also seizing notable streaks of grunge, gritty rock, psychedelics, darkwave and alternative” - Click and Listen It “George Pinto’s vocals edge towards a synth-goth David Bowie…there’s a bubbling sexuality in the sound of the instrumentation against Pinto’s vocals that’s akin to being the lovechild of Joy Division and Nine Inch Nails” - Local Loop Chicago “The Bowie influence is unmistakable, but underlining Killwave's new album Death By Distortion are the balls of Patti Smith and the snarl of Sid Vicious…These are anthems for the oppressed, disaffected and those with the boot of the man on their neck.” - Popa’s Tunes “Their overall sound can be compared to the 80’s aesthetic of The Cure, industrial Ministry vocals, and the modern melodic rock style of The Killers” - Alternative Nation Killwave call to mind musical luminaries like David Bowie, Joy Division and Bauhaus but bring something all their own to these influences.
