Cristina Morrison Biography
Known as the Baroness, Cristina Morrison is a very talented and versatile singer, songwriter, actress and producer. She has a dark and smoky voice, sings in several languages, and has always had an equal feeling for songs from her mother's homeland of Ecuador and American jazz. While she had previously made some impressive recordings, Impredecible: voces de mujer is something quite special.
The inventive singer Cristina Morrison has released her third music album Impredecible: Voces de Mujer, (Unpredictable, women voices), an impressive re-interpretation of classic Latin American standards turned into vocal duets with Latin jazz arrangements by Misha Piatigorsky.
Misha Piatigorsky reimagined and arranged 11 standards from the Latin American Songbook, giving them the rhythms and feel of modern Latin jazz. Cristina invited five illustrious female singers collaborating with other notable singers as: LENA BURKE, MIRELLA CESA, MAGOS HERRERA, BARBARA MENDES and CONSUELO VARGAS, to join her on vocal duets which brought out the emotional intensity of the lyrics and resulted in mutually inspired performances.
An American who grew up living in Ecuador and Miami, Cristina Morrison played piano for five years but as a teenager chose to pursue a career as an actress. After high school she went to drama school in Rome and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. While visiting Ecuador for the summer, she was hired as an actress and stayed a decade. She worked on television and stage, produced and performed her own plays, and even built a theater. However she eventually missed singing and returned to jazz. Cristina developed into a talented lyricist while living in the Galapagos Islands and led a jazz band called “The Baroness and her Lovers” for six years in Ecuador. She has since moved to New York and recorded two albums including Baronesa for the Jazzheads label and works in Independent Film.
Now with the release of IMPREDECIBLE: voces de mujer, Cristina Morrison has completed her most ambitious and successful project, paying tribute to the tradition, and infusing a set of beloved songs with her own winning musical personality.
