The Heavenly Thrillbillies Biography

The Heavenly Thrillbillies are a Sunderland based three-piece Bluegrass/Americana band featuring Phil Wynn on Banjo and Mandolin, Gary Brewis on lead vocals and double base and Andy Fraser on guitar, dobro and harmonica. The boys have known each other for many years, from first performing as rock n’ rollers in teenage band “Railroad” to donning dungarees and fine tuning their instruments to currently play old time bluegrass and Americana tunes – all with plenty of enthusiasm and energy. Coming together in their own backyard they evoke the sounds of American music legends such as Doc Watson, Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Jimmie Rogers, Roy Acuff and Nora Jones to name a few – arranging songs to blend in with their own flavour of instrumentation, vocals, timing and tone.

The Heavenly Thrillbillies believe keeping everything fun, interesting and fresh is the key to producing an uplifting, toe tappin’ sound, and they certainly enjoy themselves on stage, wanting their audience to have a good time too.

The new album ‘Roll Over’ is a combination of original material, and classic bluegrass and contemporary Americana music. The lyrics for our songs are composed by Andy Fraser. The band as a whole, construct the musical arrangements. The songs ‘Leavin Today’, ‘Roll Over Jehovah’ and ‘Dixie Fried’ are our own material. We recorded all but I’ll Fly Away in our own Studio. This track was recorded in a single take by ‘Lathe Revival’ using a refurbished 1938 Presto Recording Lathe.

The album is available on all streaming services. I have placed the SPOTIFY link below.
