Sobaki Tabaka is the brightest representative of the Moscow underground music considering the last 20 years. The group Sobaki Tabaka (formerly Crownear) took its roots from the Soviet era in the late 80-s. In the middle of the 90-s they emerged as the Russian industrial scene’s flagship out of a period of troubled times, and using provocative methods, they spread like a virus on TV, radio and even in the theaters, establishing the diversity of their creative ambitions. The team’s performances were always a vivid and poignant action which referred the audience to the classics of the genre, such as the Swans, Missing Foundation, Throbbling Gristle and others. In 1997, they recorded their first and legendary opus “In the Brain!”, and later on the band performed along with Einsturzende Neubauten at a festival organized by the Goethe Institute Moscow, hitting the audience with their otherworldly sound and appearance. In the end of the 90-s Sobaki Tabaka recorded the second album, "Shadow of Light", partly consisting of the music for the play "Faust".
In the early 2000-s, the group's leader, Robert Ostrolutsky moved to London, where he tried to materialize his English-language trip-hop project Positive Arrogance and record an album with British musicians at Abbey Road Studios. The album had been well met by the public, in sound having been put in a row with the English colleagues like Laika, Recoil and Massive Attack. But after a quarrel with producers, Robert left London and returned to Moscow.
In 2005, along with the bassist Alexei Mostiyev they revived the group. The Moscow label Q-Code rec. reissued the first two albums of Sobaki Tabaka. The Rolling Stone Magazine published a vast article about the group while the musicians, in the meantime, took a super tour around the former Soviet Republics.
In 2007, after the joint show with American group Dalek, the musicians began writing a new album dubbed "I find, I kill!" and subsequently released on the label Soyuz Music rec. The album received a lot of high marks among the music press and listeners. It revealed many new aspects of the band’s creativeness, consonant with the modern trends of noise-rock and sludge, keeping the same atmosphere, recognizable from the very first minutes of listening.
In 2011, having played a joint concert with the iconic project Scorn the musicians plunged into the studio work, the result of which was their fourth release, "New Body". In January 2012, the group went on a music tour with the assistance of their colleagues, Swiss musicians of Sludge and Rorcal and a hip hop singer, La Gale. Then Sobaki Tabaka supported Samael in Lausanne, and upon their return to Moscow they opened up for the cult Swans. In the next few years the group gave concerts with the legends like Godflesh and The Young Gods, and during the same period, the vocalist Robert Ostrolutsky became a superstar of the Russian Musical "Todd".
As the climax, there was a jubilee concert that took place in May 2016 with Christoph Hahn (SWANS) where the musicians brought down on their listeners the power to 7 people on stage. Sobaki Tabaka has been a leading group of the Russian underground scene for over 20 years, on which music grew more than one generation.
This year the band is preparing to release a special tribute edition with the versions of songs featured by the underground world stars, such as Octopus, Dalek, Oddateee, Velma, La Gale, Hypnoskull and many others.

Sobaki Tabaka est le plus brillant représentant de la musique underground de Moscou des 20 dernières années.
Le groupe Sobaki Tabaka (anciennement Crownear) prend ses racines dans l’ère post-soviétique en fin des années 80.
Au milieu des années 90, il émerge de la scene industrielle russe, dans des temps difficiles, en utilisant des méthodes provocatrices et se propage comme un virus à la TV,radio et même au téatre, confirmant dès lors la diversité de leurs ambitions créatives.
L'apparence du groupe était comme une action vive et poignante, se référant aux classiques du genre tel que Swans,Missing Foundation, Throbbling Gristle et d’autres.
En 1997 ils enregistrent leur premier opus légendaire “В Мозг!” (“In the Brain!”) et plus tard se produisent en première partie avec Einsturzende Neubauten avec l’organisation du Goethe Institute de Moscou, frappant l’audience avec son apparence et son univers propre.
A la fin des années 90, Sobaki Tabaka enregistre alors un deuxième album “Тень Света” (“Shadow of light”), reprenant le thème de la pièce de “Faust”.
Au début des années 2000, le leader du groupe, Robert Ostrolutsky, débarque à Londres ou il tente de réaliser son projet trip-hop “Positive Arrogance” en anglais et enregistre un album avec les musiciens britanniques aux studios Abbey Road.
L’album rencontre un fort succès cote-à-côte avec les autres collègues anglais tel que Laika, Recoil et Massive Attack.
Après un conflit avec les producteurs Robert quite Londres et retourne à Moscou.
En 2005, avec le bassiste Alexei Mostievym le groupe renait.
Le label “Moscow Q-Code rec.” réédite les deux premiers albums de Sobaki Tabaka.
Le Rolling Stone magazine publie un article majeur au sujet du groupe et en même temps débute une grande tournée à travers tous les pays de l’ancien bloc soviétique.
Puis en 2007, une collaboration avec le groupe américain “dälek” un nouvel album nommé “Найду, Убью”(“I find, I kill”) voit le jour et est produit sous le label “Soyuz Music rec.”.
L’album est particulièrement bien accueilli par la presse musicale et par les fans. Il fait apparaitre de nouvelles facettes du groupe, en consonance avec des tendances noise-rock et sludge, mais l'atmosphère elle reste la même reconnaissable dès la première minute d’écoute.
En 2011, après un concert majeur avec l’icône de la musique SCORN, les musiciens se plongent dans le travail en studio et sorte leur 4ème album “New Body”.
Au mois de janvier 2012 le groupe part en tournée supporté par les musiciens du groupe suisse SLUDGE ainsi que d’autres groupes amis tels que Rorcal et la chanteuse de hip-hop “La Gale”, puis se joins au groupe Samael à Lausanne et termine l’année en beauté avec un concert cult avec SWANS à Moscou.
Pendant les années qui suivent le groupe se produit en concert avec des légendes telles que Godflesh et les Young Gods, et le chanteur Robert Ostrolutsky en parallèle devient une star de la comédie musicale “Todd”.
Le point culminant est le concert du jubilée en mai 2016 avec Christoph Hahn (SWANS) ou les 7 musiciens déferlent leur puissance sur scène.
Sobaki Tabaka est à l’avant-garde de la scène underground russe depuis près de 20 ans et a accompagné plus d’une génération de fan.
Un album édition spéciale anniversaire verra le jour cette année en collaboration avec des stars mondiales de l’underground tel que Octopus, dälek, Oddateee, Velma, Hypnoskull, La Gale et bien d’autres.
