Unmask Biography

Unmask is a band from Rome, with alternative-prog, metal and art-rock influences, formed in 2006 by Ignazio Iuppa (voice, synth), Claudio Virgini (guitar), Daniele Scarpaleggia (bass guitar) and Dario Santini (drums). The band published 2 albums and played in numerous venues, clubs and festivals across Italy.
The latest album "One Day Closer", released in November 2017, is a mixture of different styles and influences, with arrangements that enhance the post-progressive nature of the band. The sound of the album re-discovers, in a digital era, both the heat of valves and the analogue synths. The ten tracks highlight a more direct approach to the composition, without losing both groove and melody that characterized the band since the beginning. The album is mastered by Fluid Mastering Studio (London) and published by M.I.L.K. - Minds In a Lovely Karma (Rome).
“One Day Closer” has been anticipated by the release of two singles, Flowing and Memento.
The two videos (directed by Francesco Dinolfo with the screenplay of Marianna Lo Pizzo and starring Cristiano Omedè and Anja Kanterov) set a scenario in which space and time are intertwined and the characters' actions are in a tight cause-effect relationship.
The album artwork has been created by Mirko Di Geronimo as a three stages path: “Flowing”, “Memento” and “One Day Closer”. The ì three artworks were built enrichedwith elements and images, aimed to render graphically the binding concept between the lyrics: the passage of time and its influence on the perception of the past, the everyday, the desires and expectations.
The previous work was released on 2013 and it’s a tribute to Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” with an own interpretation that contaminates the electronic sound of Massive Attack with new post-progressive influence. After just one month of its release the videoclip reached more than 100.000 views on YouTube.
The first project created and produced by the band dates back in 2010. "Sophia Told Me" has ten tracks, with an alternation of rock/progressive and psychedelic sonorities. Distributed by “Believe Digital”, the album got the attention of many Italian and international magazines and webzines. Chosen by Jamyourself as a runner-up among the emerging albums of 2010, "Sophia Told Me", also received praise from Mescalina, Movimenti Prog, Metal.it, Rockrevolution, RockLab, Hard Sound, Prognaut and has been aired on many independent radio stations.
The album was mixed in Rome by Temple of the noise, Snakes Studio and Blue Noise Studios and mastered by Fluid Mastering Studio (London). The artwork has been created by the Iranian graphic designer Sam Moshaver and a videoclip was made from the first single “Be Twin(s)”, published on YouTube, and aired on independent TV stations and Web TV.
