Milkcrate Records is proud to present the talents of Calgary based Heavydive and Osoyoos based Glendale Avenue! Both projects will be debuting their recently released EPs for the first time in Kelowna—an evening of ambient lyricism and sonic intensity! This show is $10 at the door, and all ages are welcome. 6:30 - Doors open 7pm - Glendale Avenue 8pm - Heavydive 9pm - End of event Heavydive Based in Calgary, Alberta, Heavydive is a three-piece rock band that mixes post-punk rhythms and shoegaze soundscapes with dreary, yet angelic, vocals reminiscent of Ian Curtis, Morrissey, and Robert Smith. The light, thematic guitar tones and gentle percussion textures that form the scaffolding for most Glendale Avenue songs, balance delicately within the realm of poetry and film score. The solo project of Christian Beck from BC, Canada; Glendale Avenue is a Noah Baumbach, Jason Reitman or Zach Braff soundtrack in the making. What stands out about Glendale Avenue is not the lyrical sentiment of each song, but the way in which they’re presented. Just as listeners start to feel they’re becoming familiar with the instrumentation of any Glendale Avenue track, they’re quickly introduced to a stunningly simple and often minimalist, poetry-like, spoken word vocal that weaves in and around the track; delivering what can best be described as both a cathartic and sentimental hug for the soul. Glendale Avenue feels like a drive up to the coast; a lone canoe trip through New England with the sun on your back and a breeze in the bushes.
