Christa Wells Biography
Christa Wells is an award-winning American singer-songwriter who writes deep-reaching, alternative-pop music.
Christa has released six albums as an independent artist. In spring of 2018 she released a 7-song project called Velveteen. The songs on this project were written and recorded during a time of great personal loss and transition and represent her most self-revealing work to date.
The path to Christa’s work in music was non-traditional. Instead of spending her twenties networking and performing at showcases, Christa married early, started a family, and moved away from Nashville to Raleigh, North Carolina. Motherhood, performance anxiety, and advice from veteran songwriter Dwight Liles led Christa to focus on songwriting rather than performance. In 2006, Christa was named GMA Songwriter of the Year for her song “Held,” recorded by Natalie Grant. She has also written with and for a number of Nashville artists, including Plumb, Ellie Holcomb, Selah, Point of Grace, and more. She was a co-writer on Plumb's hit singles "Need You Now" and "God Help Me", as well as Ellie Holcomb's beloved title track, "Red Sea Road."
Along the way, began sharing her songs first-hand, overcoming performance anxiety and the challenge of creating within the slim margins of family life. In 2013, Christa also joined fellow songwriter Nicole Witt in releasing an album of folk-inspired faith-based music under band name More Than Rubies.
Christa is passionate about encouraging + mentoring fellow artists and serves one week each summer on staff with Masterpiece Ministries, and arts camp for high school students. She also collaborated with Nicole Witt to found a creative support community called Artist And, which hosts periodic songwriting and creative/spiritual retreats.
Christa currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
