Alix Apples & The Core Biography

ALIX APPLES & THE CORE ARE A SCOTTISH ‘NU-FOLK’ BAND based around Glasgow. Forming in late 2019, the band is headlined by Alix ‘Apples’ Adair, and consists of John (bass), Kat (drums), and Sophie (keys and violin). The band originally came together to support Alix on her masters in songwriting, providing insight into new genres and sounds.

CURRENTLY, THEIR MUSIC FOCUSES AROUND GENDER VIOLENCE AND MENTAL HEALTH, creating music in the hopes of making these issues more accessible to the wider public. The band are in the process of creating their debut album, which will focus strongly on the theme of violence against women. This is a concept Alix has written about consistently throughout her life, winning multiple awards. In the 2012 DAVAWP Songwriting Competition she placed 3rd with what she still considers to be her best piece of lyrical writing, A Woman Who Walked Into Doors. The DAVAWP also awarded her their first ever Lyric Prize. This award then became a permanent part of the competition, and she won it again as well as placing 2nd when she next entered in 2015 with her song Asking For It.

THE BAND ARE LOOKING TO GROW THEIR MUSICAL NETWORK, both artistically and geographically. Alix, Kat, John and Sophie have all played throughout Scotland individually, and are already on the way to regularly perform as a band. Recently Alix played her first ever international gig at Das Blaue Haus in Finnentrop, Germany - before playing Scotch Corner at the 2019 Immecke Rock festival in Plettenberg. as part of the EuroGig initiative. The band have their sights set on a similar goal this year, hopefully just before the launch of their debut album.
