About this concert
A Little OTT is the delightful pairing of acclaimed folk songwriter Gavin Osborn and popular satirical songwriter Chris Tavener. From Edinburgh to Exeter, these cafe-dwelling rascals will be going overboard in a city near you! Expect an evening of heart-warming songs and many laughs. Have yourself some Osborn Tavener Time; get a little too carried away with two of Britain's most spellbinding, hilarious and endearing singer-songwriters. - GAVIN OSBORN - With five acclaimed studio albums under his belt, singer-songwriter Gavin Osborn should be swimming in a sea of royalties and bathing in a bathtub of banknotes. But who needs it, right guys? He would rather tour the UK in his Vauxhall Zafira, to play small acoustic gigs in intimate rooms to a menagerie of misfits. That's the big time right there. Regularly touring the UK and Europe, he's also a festival favourite (Latitude, Green Man, End of the Road) and known for his storytelling shows with Daniel Kitson (Stories For The Starlit Sky). Gavin is lucky enough to have worked with the likes of folk singer Grace Petrie, comedian Josie Long and poet Molly Naylor. He also supported Belle And Sebastian on their UK tour in 2010. Featuring life-affirming, funny, personal and political songs, including some from his new record, 'Echo Bridge', which The Observer called “One of 2017’s most relatable releases and a comfort blanket for post-Brexit alienation”. 'Funny and touching' - Stewart Lee, The Sunday Times. "Frustrated, angry, bewildered and aware of the utter ridiculousness of a world that has moved past your point of understanding" - The Guardian 'In true Loudon Wainwright spirit, he sings about serious things without taking himself too seriously. Splendidly sad tales of unrequited love and some proper protest music. Genuinely brilliant' - eFestivals - CHRIS TAVENER - Chris Tavener is the witty, satirical songwriter saying things that everybody thinks, but nobody says. Rock ‘n’ roll infused with comedy. Folk dipped in satire. It’s like Peep Show set to music! If Jimmy Carr played guitar...he would be Chris Tavener. “Comedic genius” - Pop Culture Pipebomb Chris has been known to play as many as 350 gigs a year, making him one of the most hard-working singer-songwriters in the UK. He’s had endorsements from Carl Barat of The Libertines, Will Ferrell’s ‘Funny Or Die’, Paddy McGuinness, Jamie Lawson and Steve Lamacq of BBC 6 Music. Steve has played Chris’ tracks four times on national radio. Originally from Northwich in Cheshire, Chris began writing and producing demo albums annually from age 17. He writes storytelling songs about the ironic comedy in everything from drunken romance, celebrity worship, football hooligans and small town problems. In the past year, Chris has performed at Glastonbury Festival, The Great Escape, Latitude Festival and The Edinburgh Fringe to name but a few. In 2017, he recorded his first live album in two back-to-back, sold out shows at Manchester’s Three Minute Theatre. He followed that up with a national tour, which included dates supporting the likes of Peep Show’s Super Hans at Manchester Academy. His first album and DVD 'Is He Joking? (Live)' was released in April 2018. "An interesting lad with an elastic turn of phrase" - Steve Lamacq, BBC 6 Music "Nice set. Kinks-y vibes" - Carl Barat, The Libertines "Brilliant!" - Jamie Lawson "That was proper funny!" - Mike Sweeney (BBC Radio Manchester)

Chris Tavener Biography

Jangly-guitar rock and a biting sense of humour meet in the storytelling songs of Chris Tavener. A theatrical musician with an acerbic wit, Tavener writes his lyrics from the perspective of flawed characters that he draws from 21st century life.

His cynical social commentary, dressed in punchy, guitar-driven rock and acoustic ballads has won him acclaim from BBC 6 Music and multiple BBC Introducing stations. He’s popular for his unique and theatrical live performance that has seen him sharing the stage with Super Hans, Emily Capell, Tony Hadley and Peter Hook of Joy Division while also writing songs for the likes of Sir Ian McKellen.

Tavener's 2022 EP, ‘Easy Ways To Be Happy’, saw his keenly sardonic style develop into an energetic, full-band sound. His latest work took him on tour with viral-hit sensation Thomas Benjamin Wild Esquire.
He is back at the writing desk in 2023 and plans, as always, to appear across the UK and beyond.

“”An interesting lad with an elastic turn of phrase” – Steve Lamacq, BBC 6 Music

“Nice set. Kinks-y vibes” – Carl Barat, The Libertines

“The idiosyncratic but ever so loveable Chris Tavener. Try and see him live, he really creates an amazing atmosphere” – Mark Radcliffe (BBC Radio 2)
