Masquerade String Quartet Biography
Masquerade String Quartet is an amalgamation of four of the country’s leading classical musicians; violinists Matthew Scrivener and Liz Hodson, violist Mark Chivers and cellist Nick Stringfellow. These four friends have taken the traditional concept of the string quartet in many new directions. The uniqueness of the quartet lies in the eclectic nature of its repertoire and programming which often sees the music of Duke Ellington, Gershwin and Richard Rodgers sit alongside the Film Scores of Alfred Newman or Bernard Herrmann. Songs from "The Great American Songbook" and Oscar winning Film Scores, especially arranged for the Quartet, have proved to be popular in concert programmes across the UK. The quartet believes that there should be no barrier to great music, irrespective of its genre.
A new cabaret style project alongside the West End star of Wicked, Alice Fearn, has also proved to be a great success.
The Quartet's first recital, intended as a one-off fundraising event, proved to be so successful that it seemed only natural to carry on performing together. Ten years later the ensemble continues to go from strength to strength.
