The Blank Minds

The Blank Minds are an indie pop rock band from Los Angeles formed in 2016 during the peak years of their high school careers. Juggling the academic pressures of junior year and the social struggles of high school hallways, the four boys, Ryan, Flynn, Drew and Nathan, bonded together in Nathan’s basement jamming in their past time. Following many house shows and low quality demo sessions they realized their musical passion might have the possibility of becoming a career. Once moving on to college, they parted ways with the original bassist Nathan Baldridge, and started focusing on a new era of the group with their new bassist Nathan Lopez. While the band transitioned their lead singer Flynn Namala underwent a drastic transition as well, as he came out as a transgender man around 2016. The band was already firmly rooted in LGBTQ+ issues as well as many other social issues but has recently taken a focus on trans youth as many of their new material focuses on the struggles of transitioning. Their latest EP "Becoming Him" works to encompass the initial year of Flynn's transition, dealing with topics from college existentialism to self acceptance and celebration. The band now resides as a three piece, as Flynn, Nathan and Drew navigate the complexities of their early 20's while trying to make music that inspires them.
